Is there a secret shot meter for hook shots?

I know in 2k15 I used to release the shooting button right before the guy left his feet for the hook shot, but I'm not so sure this year. Also, do dominant handiness, mismatches, and openness have any affect?

These are all hidden variables that I would like answers too, so as to perfect the timing and use of a hook shot when needed. Thanks!
