All he had to say was " we didn't have enough time to get as detailed as we wanted with the hair" and just keep it moving.

We all have jobs that pay us far less and if we said some smart *** remark to a customer, we would of gotten written up, suspended, or fired. At the end of the day, you have to keep it professional. No matter how annoying a customer is.
