Does 2k have too many ratings?

I think a large problem with some of the gameplay we see in NBA 2K17, or even some 2k's recently, is that ratings, especially tendencies, cancel each other out. I'm sure others have better examples, but I think guys who IRL attack the rim but who shoot tons of midrange shots in 2k and play passively are a prime example.

I think 2k should cut their ratings/tendencies categories in half. I think the AI gets overwhelmed with all the possibilities of what can happen and instead of seeing on a fastbreak that they have a clean layup at the rim......they launch a fastbreak 3.

Re: Does 2k have too many ratings?

Rather than reducing the possibilities of player individuality, the best solution IMO is correct numbers that work synergistically. The ranges/scales of each attribute have to make sense. I'm pretty sure a few roster makers on this site have figured this out.

That being said, i love the amount of attributes/tendencies and would hate to see them reduced.

I don't think so the problem is the gameplay didn't use tendencies, the game utilized cheat tactics and exploits.

Players don't play like themselves in 2K17, Korver posting up, none shooting big standing at the 3, none dribblers trying to beat defenders off the dribble, etc.

Too many ratings? Not at all. Too many badges? Absolutely. Too many poorly rated players, especially on their tendencies? ABSOLUTELY.

There are some pretty useless ratings though. Intangibles comes to mind. Also too many tendencies that get overridden by their badges, like alley oops, post moves, euro step, etc.

I could have it wrong. Your explanation does make sense. I still wonder if some ratings can be merged. Passing vision and passing IQ?! Are you kidding me? That should be one rating. That is just splitting hairs.

Re: Does 2k have too many ratings?

There is never too many when it comes to having players play more like they do on real live, if anything there should be even more tendencies and ratings, thus better scaled and implemented to be more in line with real live performances, also aside from a few ones badges should be scrapped

Its more a matter of implementation than of them making the ai confused as they are not thinking but rather following specific instructions

I could be wrong, but I see it like this: Passing Vision is how good at seeing that a pass can be made, Passing IQ is how good at deciding the right type of pass to make, Passing Accuracy is how often the pass makes it to the intended target.

Re: Does 2k have too many ratings?

If anything I think they should add some more ratings.

Maybe some ratings for off ball defensive IQ, such as how good a player is at ball denial. Matthew Dellavedova comes to mind.
