It's never "truly" a skippable year when it comes to 2K, because of the amount of new content from year -to-year.

I think the closest times we've came to having a "skippable" year(s) was between 2K17 and 2K18. 2K17 because of the "brick-wall defense" & 2K18 because of the complete opposite with the blowby effect and OP cheese (ie. The snatchback). Granted, 2K18 was also the first year on its new motion engine.

2K19 was the first time since 2K16 where I felt they we're on the right path in terms of gameplay. Now, with 2K20 (three years with the engine), we have a fully-fleshed out system. The player movement and footplanting looks so well improved thus far, it almost looks as if it's a completely different game from past versions.

In other words, don't skip these last two years with the current-gen consoles! They'll be the best we've seen from them.

I wouldn't skip because who knows if next gen 2k will be a continuation of what we have now or a complete restart, I pray its a continuation feature and gameplay wise already know it will be eye candy, but just incase it is a restart I will be enjoying what we have for now as much as possible.

I like how you say "I won't know until we see more" then in the next sentence say "Yes you can skip it".

But to answer the topic question:

Usually the year prior to a leap to a new console generation is the year to buy the game. That game is usually the best on the system and is pretty much maxed out in every possible way.

Next year would be the year to possibly skip, as the devs will be focused on upping the game quality for the new system and possibly a new engine.

If it includes all the stuff from last year and has built upon that while fixing someone of the game-play issues from the past couple of years this game would be a must buy IMO.. But I've also bought every 2k since the first through now.

Re: Would this be a good year to skip this title?

As a couple have said, usually the last yr before a new console comes out is typically the best version of the game. Where as usually its best to skip the 1st yr of a new console.

As a offline My League player only, who could care less about online play, it can bet a good choice to play the wait and see game anyway, just to make sure issues from the previous yrs game got fixed. With NBA2k that can be hit and miss, so its really up to whether you want to take that chance. Really this is with all sports games now days.

From what little Ive seen of gameplay footage, and what has been talked about, NBA2k20 sounds and looks promising. Although last yr seemed that way as well, and the gameplay ended up being disappointing with a lack of charging fouls, being called, as well as a lack of shooting fouls on 3pt shots, both were basically non-existent.

So I havent decided just yet if I will pre-order or not. I have every yr since I can remember, so chances are I will probably risk it, and the reason is I do figure NBA2k20 will be the best yet, because usually thats the way it works right before a new console is set to come out.

Too early to tell, but the movement is something most people have been asking for change with, and now they finally made an overhaul. So it's up to you on how much you value that.

I'm mostly an offline myleague guy myself, and this year looks like a must buy.

Re: Would this be a good year to skip this title?

Isn't this the last game for this gen? If it's like 2k14 last gen then they are going out with a bang with 2k20. Tighter controls, not so vc heavy mycareer (maybe) same sound though.

Next gen will have a kick *** trailer then the game will be sorta like bare bones with the same crowd noise. The PC version will be skipped over till the next game. Lol talk about deja vu.

I wouldn't skip this year.
