2kTuts and 2KLabs go into great detail as to what badges are important based on a user's play style.

Some players get positional blocks vs others who sky and get blocks from different angles. Rim Protector.

Same concept for hustle rebounder.

And intimidator is to replicate the lowered shot success players have when known good defenders are in the area. The best example of this is Omer Asik.

but These badges make gameplay completely unrealistic as they are badly implemented. like i stated in the first post: a Bad rebounder like myles Turner grabs 10+ defensive rebounds per game because of the rebound chaser badge.
a Bad shooter like pascal siakam who shots 30% in real life is able to Shoot 40+% in the game, while myles Turner who shots 34% in real life only shoots 25% because He has no shooting Badges.

and again: why is a high shot contest rating Not enough? are There players with very high shot contest ratings that dont have the "omer asik effect"? are There players with lower shot contest ratings but that have this badge?

Okay, now look at this: The top 5 3-point shooters by rating in 2k are Steph, Bird, Ray Allen, Klay Thompson, and Peja Stojakovic. Are all five of them pretty much the same type of shooter? Do all of them hit with the defense draped all over them, or are some better spot-up shooters with little defense around them? Of course not. So, if they all have the same number, how do you differentiate between them? Badges.

Who would you say is the better midrange specialist? Jordan or Jokic? Because both have a 98 midrange. Since they have the same rating, should I be able to play with Jokic in the same manner as I would with Jordan? No. Then how do you separate them? Badges.

Lol this is funny, but a prime Magic Johnson has a 98 perimeter defense. Do you think he compares in ANY WAY to Jordan, Pippen, Kawhi, etc? Because if we just go by ratings number, he does. Oh, that's right, we have badges to help show the differences in the types of defenders they are.

What you're asking 2k to do is add a bunch more categories that they don't need to. What's funny is we've had those categories before, and they didn't work, so they were removed.

Actually...some people would argue that they did worked and shouldn't have been removed.

Intimidator used to be part of Defensive Awareness, which became the Defensive Consistency rating when they evolved the Takeover system. The attribute was once all-inclusive but has since branched out.

Rebound Chaser etc were all developed because 90+ rebound ratings didn't make a player into Dennis Rodman (i.e. take them beyond the rating). Rodman and Enes Kanter are not the same type of rebounder.

The badges are creating stronger animations for the players. For RC in particular, it is something that should only be applied to guards/wings rather than lumbering bigs. This is the problem when the programmers aren't well-versed in the sport. They created something but don't understand metagames & balance necessary for application.

I can go along with this type of thinking. If badges need rebalancing, that's one thing. But IMO I think it's complete foolishness to get rid of badges altogether and rely on nothing but ratings.

This is off topic concerning Badges, but a 98 perimeter defense for Magic is an unconscionable rating choice.
