The game has passed them by. We saw players like Greg Monroe & Enes Kanter phase out of the NBA over the last 5 years despite their 1v1 prowess on both ends. There is so much help & switching going on nowadays and 2K has stone feet. They're powerless to do anything but watch.

I honestly don’t know. I’ve tweaked my custom roster tendencies and sliders to make CPU be tougher defensively. I also play with all time rosters. With my Bulls last game MJ shot 14 free throws. Each em team over 20 free throws. The game before that each team only had 5-7 free throws but that’s a rarity. It’s usually 15-25. Making free throws is easy though.

If they made defense fit to the current NBA I can see that going two ways. Right now the game is coded to be sticky man to man (sticky when it works right at least) with some help when you get past your defender (depending on whether the game feels like letting help defense work, sometimes it works pretty well for me and sometimes it goes dumb). I have CPU defense sliders jacked way up.

When I watch games today I see what seems like every possession of shots being open or mildly contested threes. Zones naturally lead to open shots. In the game they can code it to where players will run right at the shooters full force, but in real life you see lazy rotations all the time where good shooters are left open, and the guy closest to them looks at them long enough for them to eat a snack, rather than running over to them. Happens over and over again.

So if they remapped the defense, I can see an issue being that people complain of a lack of man to man leading to stupid CPU AI leaving us open all game. Which would be the opposite of 2K22 as open shots are extremely hard to find. Or if they made the CPU more aggressive than real life defenders, you’d have players closing out on you too quickly, leading them to nerf the defense like they did with the sticky man to man in 2K22.

Here’s a game I played yesterday and this is typical for my free throw attempts and % made per game. I only play 5 min Q’s. I’m really pumped about where I’m at.

I haven't tried this but from all my years working with 2k tendencies I imagine that the problem is solved, at least in part, by pumping up Foul Tendency - Block Shot - attempt steal - and Shot Contest tendencies for individual players.


Another thought that I will test out is pumping tendencies in CPU and player sliders for attempt steal on ball, block shot, contest shot, and all foul types all the way up.

I get a decent amount of fouls per game playing with default 2K rosters. I use Schnaidts sliders but I have the driving contact slider at 0 for both USER/CPU. I have the body up slider at 90 for both. I maxed out all the foul sliders as well. I get charges, blocking, illegal screen calls. I don't get many jump shooting fouls but I get a few. I'd suggest lowering the driving contact slider so that when contact is made it registers more as actual contact and not "game stickiness" to keep you from spamming the paint.
