Fans of Elite Veteran Teams - Anyone Else In the Same Dilemma As Me?

I am a die-hard Celtics fan and have been since I got into basketball as a young kid. They're my home team, and I live and die with the team. Every year in NBA 2k, I have used them in Association mode and it has been fun.

But in 2k10, I'm very hesitant to use my C's in Association mode. I'm the kind of guy that likes to start one Association per year and stick with it, and my 2k9 Celtics association grew stale.

I want to use my Celtics in 2k10, but I don't at the same time. I fear that it will end up like my Association in 2k9 and become stale after a couple of seasons. Sure, it would be fun to contend for a couple of years and then retool the team in year 3... but I think it will be difficult for me to let go of the core veterans. I'm keeping Pierce until he retires, as it should be in real life. I'd have a tough time turning my back to KG without looking back. Ray Allen would be the easiest core vet to let go, especially with his contract expiring after the 09-10 season, but finding a quality replacement would be difficult in the summer of 2010, with just the mid-level to distribute to a new 2-guard (not to mention giving a contract extension to Rondo and trying to maintain a quality bench).

I fear that I would be too reluctant to blow up the veteran core when it's time to move on, and that the association would grow stale.

On the other hand, I fear that if I choose a new team to play with in 2k, I'd get "home sick" and revert back to the Celtics anyway.

Do I care a little too much about this? Probably. But I'm sure there are a couple of you in the same situation.

To my fellow avid NBA 2k gamers, who happen to be fans of an elite NBA club, are you having similar issues? If so, what do you plan to do? Use another team or do you think that you'll just stick with your team regardless. I'm torn.

Learn how to play with a different team in association next year, or do a fantasy draft.

I usually play with a different team each year for my main Association, then after awhile I'll start picking the worst teams and trying to build them into contenders.

2k8 was Chicago.
2k9 was Portland.
2k10 is undecided. I might pick the Kings.

I don't pick the Magic because they're too good. I like building a team up, seeing progression, using bench players and making transactions.

Using a team like the Cavs, C's, Lakers is boring, imo. Winning is cool, but I've always liked being that below average team that would sneak up on people

This.

I never use the Lakers in an Association when they have a championship caliber team. I always use a team that is in the bottom third of the NBA and try to build them up over time.

I won't say that building teams from the bottom is half the fun, but it does make things much more interesting for me.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Bring Waltahhh McCarty out of retirement and maybe bring Joe Forte out of where ever the hell he is and your celtics team will be amazing!

I've thought about fantasy drafts, but I really stress realism in my gameplay and association as much as possible. Doing a fantasy draft with friends and just playing around, sure I'd do that for fun once or twice. But I couldn't play an association in that setting.

It's actually really fun, especially after the first season because some teams can get kinda stacked and get really good. For the most part, the teams are more even that way, too.
