Agree....

Only thing I would touch is AWR, if his shooting, passing etc are fair then so be it but the guy should not come in the NBA with AWR in the mid 70's/80's

as for Rondo, he HAS trade value.....IMO you just cant rate somebody based on what the other guy is rated...This isnt fanasty league....The game has tendencies and the likes of Billups, Nash and Rose will STILL score waaaaay more points than Rondo....You cant rebound or defend as well with Nash as you can Rondo, just like you cant shoot as well or be as quick as Nash with Rondo....(if the rating work in this theory)

Re: The Great Ratings Debate (long)

that's a good point...i guess the question is: what attributes would those be? these guys haven't played a minute in the NBA yet...should we rate blake griffin based on what he did againt Ok. State or north carolina?

see my point now? rookies are often exceedingly inconsistent and no one can say how well any of these guys will do. common sense says err on the side of caution and rate these guys low (i picked a 60 as a starting point for 1st rounders) now is that perfect? NOPE...but i think its a better idea than rating rookies higher than NBA starters.

Re: The Great Ratings Debate (long)

Does it really matter what a player is rated nowadays when OVR rating doesn't even mean as much as what it used to be?

Re: The Great Ratings Debate (long)

The overall rating matters as someone said for trades purposing and more important ... for starting and playing time ...

With the ratings as of now, Rondo would have more trade value than Dirk, Duncan ... even Rose (and yes, I believe that while Rondo is more seasoned and proven, his potential development ceiling is lower than Derricks) ...

As stated before, I do believe that what really matters is that players act and behaive like their real life conterparts on court but sadly this "overall rating" has still too much importance to be overlooked ...

On the other hand, what we all need to do first is try to descifrate the formula that is behind those "new" ratings ... has anybody done that yet ? f.e. (If I remember right) last season 3pt rating was about: 45 (as base) + real life 3pt% stat + real life attemps per game ...

Once we do that, we would see if it is a global scale for everyone or if it has been manipulated to favor or disfavor some players and to what extend ...

We need to confirm the simmed stats that those ratings are providing and compare them to last season stats and the players lifestats to have a better opinion on them ...

Also, we need to be sure of what ratings affect more the final overall rating as the well known Awareness (O or D) and Potential, might not be the only significant ones this time around ...

Finally, an important thing to do would be to make an excell file and list all the players by position and individual ratings so we can compare them with detail and make a better judgement ...
