Re: Is off-ball defense cheese?

I'm torn on this one. Yes there are instances where off ball is necessary and smart - when you know that the opponent is going to a certain player every time (Kobe, LeBron, etc) then it is smart to anticipate a pass to said player to create a turnover. Also for lead passing, drawing charges. I play off of guys who I know are not good shooters, to protect against the drive - Rondo for example. I don't see how that's considered 'cheese', just smart D IMO.

When it is cheese is when the guy on D is just running around on D like a chicken w/ his head cut off, bashing the steal button ad nauseum on you all the way up and down the court. THAT is cheese.

But I have learned to take advantage of the off ballers to a certain extent.

No. I try to stick to the PG position through out the game. I will switch when I feel I need to but as ehh mentioned as long as you ain't exploiting, it's all good.

Well I don't play online agaist anyone in Basketball. So I would say no.The AI does a pretty good job on Defense agaist me. My D is pretty good agaist the AI most of the time and I do not cheese the AI neither.

Re: Is off-ball defense cheese?

Personally, it depends.

When the user just controls Yao Ming or Dwight sagging inside then touching someone once in a while to avoid 3 def secs in the paint, then that is cheesing imo.

But when a user uses off ball defense or switch control on players on the defensive to adjust and make the opponent suffer through a stiffling D, that's not cheesing. I also use off-ball defense to correct the stupid mistakes (leaving the assignment for an unnecessary help D or getting blew past by the opponent) done by my AI teammates.

And yes, if the game is laggy in online games, on-ball D will make you pay.

Re: Is off-ball defense cheese?

It's cheese.

When someone says that you can switch your defense around, that's not really off ball defense. Like if you know someone is about to make a pass switching to someone else and stealing it is not off ball.

Off ball is hiding, camping, or roaming and yes it is cheesy. If you are playing online at a high level and you resort to off ball then you are trash. Sorry, I'm gonna be honest, though.

If you are playing with your friends, that's cool... but if you go into a game where two players want to see who is better and you play off ball, you are copping out.

But a good player should know how to exploit it. It just changes the game completely because there are fewer jumpers with the crazy computer defense.

Not cheese, but playing against someone that uses it is more like playing against the CPU, at least when I'm on offense.

The Same here. I've played mainly with the PG since 2k7. Against good PGs, I stay home. Not so good ones, I freelance, whenever needed.

You cant tell another player whose not using an exploit how to play the game.

If someone chooses to be the help defender, you cant demand they guard you lmao.
