LT + B (360) or L2 + Circle (PS3) is correct, but you have to use the shot stick to slam it home after initially using those buttons. Otherwise, the guy getting the oop will lay the ball up.

That is definitely false. I haven't even touched the shot stick and Kobe/Gasol still slams it down from time to time.
