Does the comeback AI only kick in SOMETIMES?? How often?

Cause I haven't seen it. I've won some games and lost some games, and seen me AND the computer comeback from deficits, but never anything crazy. Just a team shooting better and the other team not playing as well as they were when they built the lead.

I think you're seeing something that's not there. Sometimes a team gets hot and another gets cold. There huge comebacks in the real NBA probably every night.
The games you just win are games that are close for the whole game so there is no need for a catch up logic since the game is close for the whole game. You cant tell me that its logical and not cheap AI for the CPU to shoot 85% or so from the field for a quarter to catch up.

The CPU shot 15-18 from the field, then once the game got close and they went ahead they went back to shooting at a normal clip again.

Even I dont shoot that well against the CPU, the highest I have ever gotten was 73% and that quarter the CPU shot 65%.

The come back AI does not happen if you build your lead over the whole game, it usually happens if you are ahead by more then 10 points by half time, then the Cpu will turn on the come back AI to even up the score.

I want the game to be challenging but not if the CPU has to cheat.

Eh not really. I have my bad games, but then there's some where I come back.
examples...I was playing as the Thunder in Association and had a 8 point lead coming into the 4th on the Spurs (5 minute quarters btw) and ended up down by 4. Managed to edge it back and win by 3.

Then I was Phoenix against OKC in a quick game and was down by 13 going into the fourth. Managed to get it down to 1 but lost by 5 in the end.

I'm enjoying it thus far.

Now, that's my second post...off to post my Dynasty

Re: Catch Up Logic - EXTREMELY frustrating

It's "voila".

Basketball is a game of runs.

Sometimes a player will get more rebounds than Dwight Howard.

Sometimes you will just get lit up by excellent and elite scorers like Durant. It's pretty simple.

If you see momentum changing, call a timeout, adjust your defensive strategies and matchups.

I use the comeback AI as a joke when I am playing against friends and I'm not doing so well. It's easier to just blame the AI.

I haven't experienced any real comeback AI, because I am not good and am usually losing by the time the 4th quarter comes around.

I have personally come back in some games but that's only due to my improving skill, not the AI giving me a boost. I get stronger as the game goes on.

Some tips:

1.) Timeouts are there for a reason
- Use it to stop the bleeding, sub a tired player or collect your players.

2.) Dictate your pace
- You can choose to play with your own strength or go with the flow of the opponent.

3.) Find mismatches
- A 6'9" SF with a good post up play will dominate a 6'6" SF. I hope you get what I mean.

4.) Use your playbooks
- Don't stick to one play, like they said in-game, "a good play is a good play, let it go and move forward, same with the bad play". The CPU WILL adjust.

5.) Play Smart BASKETBALL
- In short "PLAY SMART".

I agree bball is a game of runs, and I could see one or two players getting hot and coming back on you, but when the CPU scrub players are also shooting over 80% from the field along with the stars then something is wrong.

Its one thing if one or two players are hitting all of their shots in a run but the whole team?

I still love the game, and think its the best basketball game ever, and I have been playing them since double dribble, through lakers vs celtics, through the live and 2k series.

And I love the game, its just too bad they cannot make the cpu really competive without cheap AI tricks.

It does not happen all the time (if the games are close) but every game I have been playing out the cpu at half time, they make a huge come back in the 3rd to tie it or go ahead by shooting over 80% every time, while I am still at my 45-55% from the field.

What level are you playing on. Ive never seen the CPU get that crazy on Allstar/sim and I give them a bump in three point shooting. Usally I can slow them down with a TO and adjustments.

Another "AI Comeback" Thread

It seems the computer cheats in every sports video game ever sold. The "miracle comeback AI" is simply the computer team being more aggressive.

Call a timeout and regroup. Try making these adjustments during the TO

If the computer has been playing a controlled half court offense and is losing big late in the game, they will make adjustments (as they should) and try to increase the tempo of the game. This includes pushing the ball up the court and pressing on defense.

To counter, you need to adjust your strategy as well.

On defense, pull your "Crash the Boards" and "Defensive Tempo" sliders back a bit, and give your team a chance to get back. If you're still crashing the boards hard and going for the steal, this will lead to several easy buckets for the other team. Also, bring your in your better defenders. Role players are there for a reason.
85% shooting = TRBL defense.

On offense, defeat the press with good ball handlers and well timed passes. Have your speedy guards in motion before the inbound and run around your defender for a quick advantage. Only finish the break if you have a no doubter. In your half court offense, the D will now be more aggressive and passing lanes that existed before will disappear. Use the over-aggressive defense to your advantage. Get the ball to your best scorer and wait for the double team. Pass the ball to the open man. Rinse and repeat. If they're not double teaming, use the pick and roll to create easy drives to the bucket.

Above all, don't panic. Increased pressure can be used to your advantage. If the AI didn't make adjustments to in-game situations, this game would be boring. Learn to counter and begin enjoying the finer points in the game of basketball.
