i try to play seven minute quarters both in game and sim, that way the stats are normalized across the board. Also use player roles and chemisry, I know sometimes it's annoying but it forces you to develop players rather than just signing high rated guys to play the bench.

In my New Jersey Nets association, I lost Devin Harris for the entire season with a torn MCL six games in it. I put Farmer in as the starter and trade for Shannon Brown. My result: Farmer is currently 4th on the list for MVP, he made the All Star Team, and is probably going to win The Most Improved Player of the Year award. Now I face a dilemma with Harris. I obviously will keep Farmer because I've molded him into the perfect PG of my taste so the future for Harris is up in the air. This is what makes me play every game, so I can experience every detail, every drama, every injury, every stat.

I think playing all 82 games helps me develop my own story of whats going on in my sports world and the details of the journey is more so the best part than the end result.

Hope that inspires and helps you want to commit more to it bro. Good luck!

That's just it you nailed it. This game is that good. I want to experience it all, every game and know, feel and play out all the details of the journey. I have an emotional investment in my team. It is what makes this and The Show so amazing. The detail, immersion and realism is top notch. If your not playing this game on 12 minute quarters you are truly short changing yourself of the NBA simulation experience that 2K has mastered on this game.

Glad to see the massive feedback in this thread.

I finally think I've found my way, what I'm doing now is

1) 12 minute Q's
2) Rashidi's Rosters
3) PuntNL's sliders on All Star

So far I've played 6 games with OKC and only one has been a blowout and that was @ DET.

I want to play 82 games but it takes so long to get through 1 season. I have to simulate some games although I do not like it. That's the one thing abou football games, the season are not really long so if my team is losing I know the draft and offseason isn't too far away to try and rebuild my team as a winner. But you guys are right 12 min qtrs are a must to get the complete feel of the NBA game. It also makes it more difficul because you konw eventually the cpu will make a run and I really have to gameplan to try and win the game. I have been blown out and I blow out teams at times, its a good mix. In my association I lost Carmelo for about 2 weeks, it was a hard 2 weeks, but when he came back he dropped 47 on the clippers. I love this game.

Re: Anyone got tips on how you stay commited in Association?

When I tried 12min quarters, I just thought that the games were way too long; I would only really be able to play at most 1 game a day. This would also mean that I would get really impatient and start simming tons of games which then means that I would lose quite a bit of games and not feel that attachment to my squad anymore. However, having accurate and realistic stats was awesome as I could truly compare the performances to the NBA and gave me a sense of relativity , if you will. Maybe then 12 min qrts and a 29 game season would be the way to go as I would then maybe play all the games? Right now, I'm playing 5 min qrts and a 58 game season which I'm really enjoying as I play most of the games and the shorter games are exciting and not too short to not get into.

I actually don't play 12 min qtrs either. But the reason for that is because I'm more of a run and gun kind of player so my points add up fast and it would just be an unrealistic outcome at the end of every game. I play 9 min qtrs and it seems to work out fairly well.
