You can't block Kareem, so it's pretty much all about him making/missing than anyone else guarding him. BUT, as much as I love Kareem, Olajuwon's game is so much more beautiful and varied. I'm going with The Dream!

Is this really a question...and to think that Akeem has the lead...ssshhhh...no way...Lew was sick!!! I remember watching him retire...an end of almost 2 eras...Kareem and Magic Johnson, cooper, AC Green...the showtime lakers...that was a great time for the NBA!

Hakeem is recent, people have seen a lot of his play.
Kareem is ancient, most people have no idea what he did.

I love Hakeem, huge fan. He doesn't belong in the same discussion as the Center Trifecta that is Kareem, Wilt and Bill.

The question is who was the better player overall. Giving that to Hakeem because his game is so "beautiful" is borderline ridiculous.

Got to go with my favourite player ever here, Kareem, even though I love Hakeem and he's in my personal top.
Don't let the older Lakers Kareem fool you though, don't think Hakeem was more athletic, don't think he wasn't an amazing rebounder and a defensive force. He was not in his prime by then, older but still dominating, still well conditioned, this was a guy dropping more than 20 a game in his late 30's.
And the skyhook, what can I say... Here's a guy at 7 ft 2 in, athletic, releasing a hook shot at the top of his jumping motion, like a straw, sliding the ball off of his fingers, with a great deal of range, blocked maybe less than 5 times, allowing him to dominate for 2 decades, to score more than 38000 points. He had a great post game besides that but most of his points came from that move alone, just simple, fast, easy to perform (for him) and beautiful. No one else pulled it off.
Dominance for 20 years, until his 40's and averaging like 25 PPG on a .550 FG%, I got to go with that.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, in the debate for greatest player of all time, three names that are always mentioned MJ, Kareem, and Wilt, not Hakeem end of story most of you guys are only looking at older Kareem, but young Kareem was unstoppable.

Hakeem the Dream... If Hakeem played in in Kareem's era, he would've dominated in stats just as Kareem did and then some. I'll take Shaq over all though

I don't like to tell people their opinions are wrong; but there are a lot of wrong opinions in this thread.

lmao... you know they were both playing during the 80's right? it's not like one played during the 50's and the other is playing now
he would've dominate more? care to explain why?
I saw 38 years old Kareem dropping 40 on a young athletic freak Hakeem a couple of times, and offensively a young Hakeem wasn't doing much more than a really old Kareem... I know Hakeem wasn't in his prime but still Kareem was almost 40 and not close to being athletic as before, and when he was young as Hakeem he was already doing more...
