Indeed and agreed ... I once again hope to be wrong ... but when I read that news a couple of days back I thought that they ment that both logics were revamped, but just (only) in order to consider the new CBA rules ... which translate into only considering superficial factors (cap rules, bird rights, no sign and trades, etc) and not addressing the core variables that make those logics wrong (unbalanced picks values, unbalanced potentials, the AI not using the multi team trade feature, no short/long term team plans, etc).

Dont get me wrong, the new CBA consideration is a plus and was a must, but attending the core flaws has long been over due.

  • Now that the dust has settled from the lockout, Visual Concepts has made sure all of the rules from the new collective bargaining agreement are in the game. With the new CBA rules in place, Visual Concepts has revamped the team-building and trading logic.
1. We had Coach Profiles in 2K12 to do exactly that. Most coach profile settings did impact simulated game results (not all worked properly though). The only thing we couldn't do was change coach profiles during an "active" sim (I forget the 2K term for that simulation screen). This sounds like a non-addition until it's explained further.

2. The CBA rules SHOULD be in place. It's an NBA licensed game. Good that they are in, but this shouldn't even be a discussion point.

3. "Revamped the team-building and trading logic". Revamping trade logic won't matter at all if players are still rated absurdly and half of the league is given superstar Potentials. Trade logic is based upon trade value. They don't work without the other. I saw very few problems with the trade "logic" in 2K12 once trade values were set to realistic values (i.e. not using 2K's roster and revamping the entire scale). The only problems that existed were the lack of VALUE to players who were given Potentials that more accurately lined up with reality (i.e. the game expects you to rate young players with the absurd 85+ potentials to receive a high trade value although that breaks their own trade engine).

Nothing we've seen so far has spoken to the issues in Association mode. It's still early so let's just wait and see the REAL news before jumping to conclusions. I doubt they would talk about those kinds of specifics until later this month anyways based on their past history of communication about game modes.

One of the few things that I did see which gave me a glimmer of optimism was that Dwight Howard had a 57% FG PCT average in their gameplay video which was taken from either Season or Association mode. That means that they likely fixed their FG% caps from 2K12 for Inside and Close.

That's a pretty disappointing list if that's it.

Re: nba 2k13 association mode improvments and stats

not to mention that they gave us coaching profile slider additions (the last 6 sliders) that should have either impacted trade logic or rotations but did neither. so my thought process is that they actually fixed those particular coaching profile sliders that were ALREADY ther but not working; & are now calling it "revamped".

of course i agree with yAk that the trade logic was MUCH improved after making adjustments. the bulk of association inclusions NEED to be IMO:

- stats engine

- WHEN in-season teams do the most trading

- a better system for dictation "starting" & "core" rotations (& there NEEDS to be a distinction between the two)

- gm logic in terms of what type of players that teams try to acquire based on their LONG/SHORT TERM GOALS versus their CURRENT ROSTER

making the coaches & their rating mean something

all else seems to be solvable IMO

I hope they fixed the mpg bug and put editing age back in. They also need to scale the draft class ratings with the nba players and lower potential. Tired of doing everything myself.

Re: nba 2k13 association mode improvments and stats

stat glitch-pretty sure they should be able to compute and display correct averages in the year 2012.

have rotation minutes carry over to association/season- how hard can it be to "save" and apply that to every mode.

rotation AI - every cpu "coach" designates minutes in the same manner. this is lazy programming. starters in 2k12 got approximate 34 minutes with a little variance.
ccpu will play every player every game. if rotation has a player at 0 minutes then cpu should only play them if injury or fouls require those players to play

trade logicneeds help
how about trading for expiring contracts as an example.
teams appear to trade in 2k12 just for the sake of trding

team building logicAi needs to have a plan.
build through the draft
pay big bucks for the best players via fa
build around certain guys and bring i certain ss guys to complement
etc
blow up a team that isnt winning, and startover
add a guy to stop a certian player on your rival team

simmed playoff games have too much variance in scores. there can be literally 60 point swings game to game in every series. a rare blowout would be ok, but playoff games should be a little tighter/closer game to game than regular season. disappointing to see a 7 game series with one close score, and the rest are 15-40 point wins with game 7 being a 35point win

add new cba rules

fix these and it would be a good start

Re: nba 2k13 association mode improvments and stats

Im buying NBA 2K since 2K8 I guess, and Im pissed off every year. I mean - 2K roster is f****d up!! I always have to wait like 2 months for some guys like ronyell, Paul Pierce, or mkharsh33 (THANK YOU GUYS!) to re-edit this crap 2K roster to finally start my association. Who the hell cares about this stupid ratings they give us - there is like thread about every player and their ratings lol. Give us some info about association, sim engine, trade logic, players development, teams targets, rebuilding modes - not an another Dream Team info :/ I love this game, but this is the same story every year...
