Re: Rebound Effectively

Yes, it could be how you play defense too. If you're leaping and jumping to block on every possession both on-ball and from help, your bigs are going to be out of position for the rebound. I play defense by position and LT RS, with the occasional block attempt. My bigs are usually in the right place after the shot goes up.

If you're trying to swat everything with Mutumbo like a Geico commercial, he's going to have a harder time rebounding.

For what it's worth, the knock on real life David Lee is that he sometimes gives up on defending his man in order to get a head start on the rebound. If you're jumping a lot with him inside, he's not going to get his real life numbers either.

Re: Rebound Effectively

2k has all but said, however (at least in years past), that on ball D is necessary for the best chances at stopping the offensive player; your teammates don't do well enough. If you defend through the shot, by the time you switch players, rebounding position has already been established, and usually, at least at the higher difficulties, your man is out of position. 2k has to fix one of these things, because they create a catch 22 defensively. You essentially have to choose between shot percentage and rebounding.

Re: Rebound Effectively

my main problem with rebounding is on defense when there is a the long rebound and the game doesnt let you react properly while A.I watches the ball bounce right pass 2 or 3 players and let the other team get the offensive rebound.

Re: Rebound Effectively

reb tips:

1. use 2k cam always. mess with the camera angle for the best zoom n height
2. box out manually...only target the opponents best rebounders
3. use a player w/scrapper sig skill (boost for box out). hustle pts sig helps too
4. watch the trajectory of the ball (just like real bball). this is another reason why 2k cam works best. it's hard to see the trajectory on side camera angle.
5. adjust your crash board settings in coaching profile

Personally, I think the simmed stats of assists and rebounding is a much bigger issue.
Kinda hard to box out manually when the CPU always magically knows where every rebound is going and gets perfect positioning. I can get around 8 boards a game with Dwight Howard, but only if he plays a TON of minutes. I've had Nash get more rebounds than him several times. Seriously, rebounding is awful this year. Hope it's better in '14.

Problem already solved.

Seriously though, my leading rebounders are who I expect them to be 95% of the time, and I'd say I also get 95% of the rebounds I feel I should get. The only time my opponent grabs significantly more offensive boards than me is when they miss significantly more shots.

I don't use custom sliders or special techniques - just proper positioning, a minimum of unnecessary gambles, and jumping slightly later than my instincts tell me to. As soon as I can tell a shot's going to be taken, I'm thinking about the rebound.

Don't take anyone's word for it though, look at your VIP profile. You may find some good clues in your tendencies and stats. (If there are no helpful comments in your scouting reports, leave VIP and go back in - some of them will be different each time.)

If your block success isn't at least a full third of the scale higher than your attempts, you go after too many shots. If you use double-teams a lot, you're taking a potential rebounder out of position. If you play a lot of zone, that may be moving your best rebounders further from the basket on occasion. If your games are heavy on 3pt shooting, there will be more long rebounds going to guards. These are just a few of the ways you can hurt your chances of grabbing a rebound.

For all I know, you do everything perfectly but something weird like your rosters and sliders not being perfectly complimentary is causing a problem, since you didn't say what settings you use...all I can say for sure is that when enough other people aren't having the same issue(s), that probably means it's time to look elsewhere than the rebounding being "awful".

It has zero to do with Howard trying to block shots. Since shot blocking is ALSO pretty much non-existent in this game, I usually don't even bother attempting it. If I'm playing perimeter defense, and the shot is missed, you would think that Dwight Howard, who averaged 15 boards a game last season would at LEAST have somewhat of an advantage around the rim. Doesn't happen. I even edited his offense/defensive rebounding and hands attributes to 99. As for "enough people not having the same issue," just because some of them haven't posted here, doesn't automatically mean it's not a problem. I've seen plenty of complaints about it in other threads. I'm using Bedwardsroy's roster and sliders. As for the VIP thing, I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. I assume that has something to do with online games and I don't touch that.
