Exactly! That's been my experience precisely for the past 3-5 days. I don't know what they did under the hood, but the Pacers are a monster now in online ranked games.

Re: Indiana Pacers - Online quick matches

This is a great thread. I, unlike all you hipsters, have not been playing with the pacers since before they were cool. I mean I'd rock them from time to time in 2K12, since it was easier to get inside domination with Hibbert and West. 2K13 I thought they were neutered pretty bad. Celtics have been my team but you want to talk about neutered pretty bad! I like using a top team when playing against top teams and Boston just isn't there anymore.

In this one, I agree with everything said here. It's frustrating that in online quickmatch it's really hard to play a post game (against most players who run a zone or double team etc...), and I haven't found the right release for west, he's not as effective at say Brandon Bass at the kick out 12-16 footer when the d collapses on the drive.

I haven't figured out Scola yet. Although sometimes he and Mahini show up and can finish in close if open, as was noted better than Hibbert and West sometimes.

I'd add that I had a great game driving with Hill. I was surprised. The guy I was playing was one of those on ball purists, and also one of those go for the inbound steal every time types, so I was constantly challenged to drive the lane. Once he warmed up he was going in on Splitter and Duncan and finishing consistently. Scored like 20 with him, almost all on contested layups.

Right now I think I have a better record with the Wizards, and definitely think the pacers in this game are not nearly commensurate with the 8-0 squad that's killing it IRL, but I think the squad is a good team for a challenge, and a good team to learn.

You have to up their on ball and off ball pressure up to at least 80 and you have to up their fast break also because George and Lance WILL get out and run...I definitely disagree about them not having any athleticism, I have posterized many people with PG. He can pull out some Lebron type of dunks in this game, I definitely have some nasty ones saved...Same with Lance although its easier to block his dunks. As for Hibbert, I don't use him too much on offense unless he's open because he jacks too many close shots, just like real life, lol..West can be a beast if you're playing an opponent who allows you to use him. But if you're playing someone who is playing a 1-3-1 or some other zone, he's pretty ineffective. As far as their perimeter shooting, I make 3's at a high rate with Hill and Lance also. I have Lance's release down, I actually have all of their releases down, including Granger but Granger still misses much more than he should. PG is hit or miss with his 3 point shot...One game he's on fire, the next game you can't hit anything with him. Same thing with Watson. I do love Scola though and Ian is a better finisher than Hibbert so I have no problem subbing him the game..He's a good defender also. Copeland is hit or miss also. He has a quick release but I find he only makes shots when he's really wide open and standing still...He's a catch and shoot player in this game. I don't use him too much though, I try to keep PG in the game as much as possible. Everyone else I will sub out when they get to 3 bars but with PG I try to keep him in until he gets down to 2 which is not too often and I use all my timeouts pretty much every game to keep them fresh, especially West and Hibbert who get tired very fast. But the team can be a beast on defense when you turn the settings up and if you're good with icon switching on defense.

Having said all that, I still lose to the same teams when I pick them, mainly the Rockets and Clippers. You have to put PG on their point guard especially if the point guard is that team's best player. But then that takes away from his rebounding but he can be really disruptive putting pressure all the way up the court. Lance is usually the first guy I sub in when Granger gets tired I put Lance at the 2 and PG at the 3. Every once in a while, Orlando and Copeland get in the game but mainly I just use Watson, Lance, Scola and Ian off the bench and try to keep PG in the game at all times...But DON'T sleep on PG's athleticism, he can dunk over anybody on this game and draws fouls when you go to the hole with him. He has an easy free throw release also.

Forgot Granger isn't available online right now, I was mainly thinking of offline when talking about him. Online I try to keep PG AND Lance in the game at all times and will sub Copeland in at the 3 and move George to the 2 when Lance needs to come out...
I agree with all of this basically

I've had my problems using the Pacers too and it's frustrating because I'm a big Pacers fan here in Indy.

But recently I've been winning with them and here's the main reason why. I am slowing the tempo and just running pick and rolls. Try and play a half court style game vs someone and you'll be shocked how well you'll end up playing with the Pacers. I was always running and gunning with the Pacers before and it just never worked out. Use the shot clock and take your time.

Defensively, this team is so much better than before. I agree with the guy above, whenever you play the Clippers, put PG on Chris Paul. Everyone abuses him (as they should) and PG is obviously an elite defender with size that can bother CP3. Now it may sound dumb, but put George Hill on Dudley. No one ever drives with him anyway. He just cashes threes all day. Don't worry about Hill being too short either. It won't matter in the end. Then you can put Lance on either Redick/Crawford. Basically the point I'm trying to make is that the offense runs through CP3. Putting George on him will usually fluster the other guy because he cant get into his offense quick enough.

Hibbert still misses way too many close shots for my liking. Playing against the Clippers a lot, Deandre Jordan makes more shots underneath than Hibbert, and that's not including dunks. It's ridiculous. Hibbert is still good at offensive rebounds and post defense. To me, Mahinmi is almost better than Hibbert on this game. He finishes at the rim easier than Hibbert and plays just as good defense.

I've yet to hit enough threes with Copeland and Watson. Orlando Johnson is a tank on here. His shot is so cash and I've done some sick dunks with him. Scola does his thing off the bench to backup West.

All in all, the Pacers are getting there in terms of being an elite team on 2k. But teams like the Knicks still rule the 2k online world unfortunately. But if you're having trouble with the Pacers, try slowing the game down focus on being more efficient and getting up good shots. Make your opponent play defense for a little longer.

I definitely agree with you about running the pick and rolls...I try to run them PG or Hill, even if my opponent is playing some kind of zone. Watson has a VERY late release, almost like he's on the way down when you release the button. I have had success shooting with Orlando Johnson when he's in the game. I did forget about Hibbert's offensive rebounding. He really crashes the boards, thats the main advantage he has over Mahimi. Scola's midrange shot seems like its better than David West' but I think its because his release is easier and smoother.

Lance Stephenson finally got his well-deserved boost. With the boost and return of Granger, the Pacers are a monster online...minus Hibbert's poor shot blocking attempts.

Hibbert has been tweaked to where he's actually getting offensive rebounds now in online games. Pacers are actually playing like their real life counterparts.

Yeah Hibbert is pretty bad this game. Never gets rebounds, never. I even have him in my association and he cost me at least two playoff games because of his lack of rebounding. I don't know if it's because he's too big or what but he doesn't go after rebounds.

Quick update...Stephenson got ANOTHER boost, and they fixed Granger's height back to 6'9".
