Very true. If they were to nix the force field on the baselines and out of bounds in general, blocking fouls and the rate of which they are called would need to be increased exponentially to compensate. And I don't have a problem with that at all.

to what extent? 2k11 was the most realistic basketball game since maybe 2k3, ch2k8 or Live 2005 and it sold like hot cakes. As long as you have an arcade setting with loose sliders I dont think you need to honor arcade stuff in the game's core gameplay. We are awfully far from having core gameplay that is 'too realistic' by common measures and definition. The common demand is for tighter more realistic core gameplay.

I just don't think you guys get the numbers. There are more people who like NBA Jam then they do 2k style. It's always going to be like that. The sim nation is very small. I can't tell you how many people get turned of because the game is too hard. And they don't care about what's real. All they care about is having fun. Even if that means dunking the ball 100 times in a game.

See, that's the problem with our society. Everyone assumes people are idiots. But I think everyone would appreciate a more sim game if it was done right.

No one likes randomness.
No one likes cheese.
No one likes not being able to play defense.
No one likes seeing bad shots go in more often than the good ones.

It doesn't mean the game has to be insanely hard, or demanding from an execution standpoint. It can still be a ****** game. But let people who want to play right get a significant edge. Let it be built on solid foundations.

The title should be when will 2K get rid of sim and go all out arcade because that's what make the game fun....see 2k7.

Wasnt NBA Jam set to ship with a game that got canceled for not being realistic enough? The numbers are in sells. EA makes a more realistic Hockey and Soccer game and the result is greater market share. Madden 92 and 93 put Madden on the map with games that were for their time more realistic than the comp. Live 2007 outsold NBA 2k7 on the PS 3 with marketing around physics and foot planting. Fight night sold more than any boxing game with an attempt to simulate realistic knockouts, punch output and damage.

Then you have NBA 2k11. If dunking the ball 100 times was important to people 2k11 would have been the start of a negative trend. Compared to something like 2k9 2k11 was far more realistic even with default or arcade settings.

Sims outsell arcade sports games in every sport by a wide margin. Im sure a game can be too realistic. Im not in favor of 100% live balls even though its realistic. There are limits I just dont think we are close to the point where the game is too realistic.
