Players in Season Mode

Just a simple question as I'm not planning to compete in Season Mode for a while and just playing quick games now and then:

Is there a way to get the cards out of the Season Roster without locking new cards in this Roster?

I would like to use them to level up my other cards and I don't see the point why I can't use them all again when my Season is over.

I don't know if this will get too confusing but what I do is put two of the same card, then combine them, leaves on of their slots blank, then keep doing that with dupes
