NCAA March Madness 06 College Classics

I love playing these games because they're just fun to do. Does anyone have any tips to beat the games? Any of them in particular.

Re: NCAA March Madness 06 College Classics

I have yet to play these since getting a new PS2, they're great!

With Valpo, just get a running starting [with Bryce Drew of course #24 the SF] and just make a wide open 3. The D doesn't press so you should be able to get wide open.

Same in UCLA vs Mizzou you get a few extra seconds. Use Tyus Edney[#11 the PG].

In Arkansas vs Duke just give the ball to Corliss Williamson [#34 the PF] and just go to the rim and then play D. If Duke scores just hold it with Corliss and make a smart GW'er.

In Santa Clara vs Arizona, just use STEVE NASH all day! #11 baby! He's a PTP... Primetime Player!!

Cool, thanks. Yeah, I've beaten them before on an old system, but it died, so I'm going through on the new one and doing them again. Do you have any defensive tips to stop their offense from doing the "double pass" into the paint and such other crappy things?

Nah man, what's the Double Pass?

If you're getting killed down low just user the center or PF.

Re: NCAA March Madness 06 College Classics

The double pass...is kind of a thing where the point guard uses a pick in front of him, and there is a guy in the high post he passes to. About a millisecond after THAT guy catches the ball, he passes inside to the center or whomever is waiting in the low post, and they just dunk it like nobody is even there, even when somebody IS there. I wish I could take a video of it because it happens quite a lot.

Another thing that makes me wonder is how the other team's players make shots when you have your center right in front of them with his hands up. Like, if a small point guard tried to shoot with David Robinson or Shaq in front of him, with both of his hands up, and giving him absolutely no space to make the shot, he wouldn't make it. Doesn't seem to be the case in this game. It's also irritating how players get sucked into screens and double teams.....but still, it's insanely fun to play, LOL.

Re: NCAA March Madness 06 College Classics

Yeaaah man I know now. I had to go in game to realize. I thought it was something else perhaps, but yeah, that double pass is hard to defend. I just hit LAST MAN BACK / L2 and quickly go up on them because they instantly shoot. Ehh, I don't really care because they do it a bunch but it's not like a kid would do it. It's like 5 times a game or so. Just contest best way you can.

And yeah, hands up does NOTHING. You HAVE to actually jump in the air. HANDS UP is more for stealing passes. Go in to a game with 2 controllers and test it. If you're on a guy at the 3pt line hands up, he'll make it every time. At the time, that was kind of a new thing for basketball games. So they didn't nail it correctly.

I don't notice the suction much maybe it's not that big in my game, but I'll definitely look for it next time.

Good to know, thanks. I won't waste my time with my hands in the air all the time now. For those early games before the 3-point line was added, I just run a 2-3 zone and cover down low/defend the center trying to get position in the post. They try that "double pass" but my guy picks it off.

By suction, I mean how you get easily sucked into a defensive players on-ball defense and how easy you can stay on them until you get road locked by a screen you can't avoid. If you try and drive to the hoop in the early classics, and probably any in general, you'll automatically get sucked into a double team.....which I don't have a real problem with I guess....but it is a nuisance. The game just.....needed some things to make it seem less like the computer was being fair, but hey, a computer isn't programmed for fairness, lol.

I may be way off because I had a gap between NBA Live 2002 and NBA Live 2005 where I didn't play any games at all really, didn't have time. But yeh man, the ability to put your hands up on D was so new and foreign back then. It was overall a really cool addition, but there was a shoddiness to it especially when they didn't take in to account that [like you see in 2k3 today] just having hands up wouldn't actually DEFEND shots. Still, that, and the dribble control stick... man...they really brought the REAL FEEL to basketball games. Shame what EA has become.

About suction, I know what you mean now, but you have to remember that March Madness 06 was marketed all around DEFENSE, and the LOCK DOWN STICK. That was the big feature that year, like I said, HANDS UP, it was a new thing. Very very cool. If you look back at some of the old marketing videos you can tell right away that they were aiming for a defensive game, with emphasis on pressing/trapping/high pressure defense that makes college basketball so thrilling. For that man I gotta say it's a success, because you do have to work for points in this game. Especially on All-American.

What other oldies do you still play?
I've got:
Live 2002
Madden 2002
NBA Street Vol 1
Live 2005
NCAA Football 2006
MM '06
