Sliders and Next-Gen
Obviously, sliders for current gen NCAA has its limits and there is very little information and much ambiguity surrounding certain sliders and exactly what decreasing or increasing their values does to gameplay. The NCAA slider creators are the best in the business. I'm amazed yearly at the time and effort many slider makers take to craft a game of their own and are able to counter glitches and/or gameplay flaws with their slider sets. They save us a lot of time and hassle, and allow us to get a good base to work off from and change our sliders to our own personal preference.
But herein lies the problem with that. Take MLB: The show for example, it's very easy to tailor the game to your skill level without worrying about unintended consequences. I'd almost say each person should have their own unique slider set based off their own skill and experimentation. However, this is impossible to do in the current NCAA because of unintended consequences and as a result slideritis has been known to afflict me yearly.
Compound this ambiguity with the new phsyics animations and problems can arise. Now we have sliders which can totally influence the interaction of physics and player ratings, and we walk a fine line in fine tuning our sliders to our own skills.
Sliders have to be concrete in what they affect and don't affect. As players, we have to understand from day one exactly what sliders effect. Is the tackle slider only limited to the success of an attempted tackle, or does it also increase defensive aggression or awareness.
We are also in pursuit of that perfect slider tailored to our own skills and concept of realism, why can't we have full knowledge of the slider system and what it affects? It would allow us to get down to the most important thing faster and that's enjoying the game.
Any thoughts? Ideas for what you want sliders to affect next gen? Possible slider value systems? Increments of five still or more slider values?
I want this thread to be a discussion on how we can better improve the slider system interacting with player ratings and the physics system. With a great and intuitive slider system, the sky is the limit for this series.
