He is correct. The only thing 2006 control scheme gives me is a penalty for excessive celebration on defense. So if you are strafing and you press dive to tackle, this kicks in the defensive taunt celebration after play. How stupid they made it that way. Why not make it the white or black button for celebration? They're hard to mistakenly press.

Both of those work with the 2005 control scheme as well.

Just an additional note on this (The poster who said L2 + right analog is correct BTW):

Has anyone tried high-stepping from beyond the 20? I ask because in one of those tutorial videos it shows a guy clearly starting a high step from about midfield - and later fumbling when he gets hit from behind at about the 20

I think it's like the Gamebreak/Gameday series from PSOne, you can just highstep whenever the hell you feel like it.

Ah, my bad. I didn't actually look over the controls in the game for the 2005 configuration, I just assumed they were exactly the same from last year's game.

Don't worry, it doesn't say. I had to go into the practice mode a mess around until I figured it out

From what I can tell the only thing that changes is the Stiff Arm buttons

Also...on defense, the "select closest player" and "sprint" buttons are reversed. Honestly I'm having more trouble adjusting to this change than learning how to use the stick for jukes on offense.
