Well it depends.
Is it a Sony WEGA CRT HDTV (a tube TV) or LCD ?

If it's CRT, it only does 1080i and not 720p. So your 360 is taking NCAA (which is 720p) and converting it to 1080i so it can display on your set.

If it's LCD, it does 720p and you would likely want to go into your 360's settings and have it set to 720p instead of 1080i. All 360 games are produced in 720p. And while some HDTVs don't do a great job of converting 720p to 1080i (and vice versa), the 360 does a fairly decent job.

Re: 1080i Question

I have the Sony XBR Grand Wega and it looks stunning in 1080. I dunno if it's a setting or maybe cables?

Some newer DLPs are 1080p, but that model is likely 720p. You should set the dashboard to 720p and play on that setting.

Oh i know its running a 720, and my 360 is at 720 as well. I was just figuring out why I only get a 480 and 720 option on my 360 dashboard right now and I know my TV will do 1080i

Re: 1080i Question

There are a number of sets on the market that support 720p natively. Hitachi comes to mind as most of their 50"+ sets support it natively. Just remember there is both an input and an output for the TV's. So my statement is reflecting those that actually display the 720p output, most accept the 720p input and then scale it to match whatever they can output 480p/1080i.

Also, all games on the 360 are only required to support the minimum 720p, the developer can target straight 1080i if they want, but I don't have a breakdown of what current games were produced for. I would imagine that all/most of them have been done at 720p though.

The best resolution to run is the one closest to the native resolution of your device... plain and simple.
