Games like MLB 08 The Show show you what next gen should be

The thing about MLB: The Show does for me is incorporate many of the intricacies of the game of baseball. It captures all the different aspects of the game and it dominates every other game I've ever played in that aspect.

Or it could be directly related to the fact that a baseball season is 162 games plus playoffs and NCAA is what, 13 games including the bowl game? Obviously its much easier to get through a complete season on NCAA then The Show for that reason alone.

not only is the show a great looking game. However, they release patches all the time. With the NCAA series, we are usually stuck with one patch per year and that usually comes around November. I know this year my be a little different but they seem more focused on the next game then improving the crap they just released

Playing The Show, you just feel like you're part of a baseball game, you're immersed, great commentary and presentation. It has its bugs, but is an excellent title. On the other hand, we have a game (NCAA) that COULD BE a great title. It has some awful bugs that look to get fixed in the patch, but still has along way to go on presentation and immersion (although Stadium Sounds is awesome)

To me, The Show has been the same game for about four years now. It's the epitome of last-gen gameplay with next-gen graphics, which, frankly, seems to be what a lot of guys want. :shurg:


i would like to say the game does not have next gen graphics its about as bad graphics as u can get by with and still be great, due to the awesomeness of the core content gameplay and roster updates. the player faces are stellar tho

The Show has fantastic presentation. The cut scenes, commentary, etc. are all top notch. I never meant to imply any different. I think NCAA does a pretty solid job in the presentation department but no game really comes close to the Show. 2K5 was great in its day and the half time and weekly wrap shows are still the standard for football games today.

One thing that I disagree with OMT about in the commentary is that they should use the player names and not the position when commentating. I know its easier to just have Nessler say, "The back carries the ball for 5 yards" but its an easy way out of not doing it right. They need to say "Wells carries the ball". They have all the names in the databases just like 2K5 had and don't take enough advantage over that - especially when they created the roster locker. If necessary, each name should have a time associated with it (to insert into the blank line) so the gap in the commentary sounds more realistic rather than a delay.

Just want to throw out that College Hoops 2K8 and NHL 08 are both awesome too
