inflated rosters? (little long)

I was bored today so I did a little research. I looked at 16 classic powers rosters on teambuilder to see how different they can actually be.

team - final ranking - (2008 record) - # of players ranked 90+

Florida - 1 - (13-1) - 18
USC - 3 - (12-1) - 18
Texas - 4 - (12-1) - 12
Oklahoma - 5 - (12-2) - 15
Alabama - 6 - (12-2) - 10
Penn St. - 8 - (11-2) - 8
Ohio St. - 9 - (10-3) - 7
Georgia - 12 - (10-3) - 12
VT - 15 - (10-4) - 8
FSU - 21 - (9-4) - 10
Nebraska - NA - (9-4) - 5
LSU - NA - (8-5) - 10
Miami - NA - (7-6) - 7
Notre Dame - NA - (7-6) - 6
Tennessee - NA - (5-7) - 6
Michigan - NA - (3-9) - 4

Just looking at these rosters there are way WAY too many players ranked 90+ for the top teams. I can see 10-12 players max ranked 90+, but 18 is rediculous. That is saying 18 players from Florida and USC's roster will be drafted this year. Sorry, I'm not drinking that cool aid.

(1) Florida only had 3 players taken in this years NFL draft
(3) USC had 11
(4) Texas had 4
(5) Oklahoma had 5
(6) Alabama had 4
(8) Penn St. had 5
(9) Ohio St. had 7

Information was taken from ESPN.com and EA Teambuilder

Florida could easily have 7-10 players drafted this year depending on who leaves early for the NFL.

I do agree though...The ratings are very inflated and this years roster, among other problems, are why I will not be purchasing NCAA this for the first time since NCAA 99.

I am not surprised...remember, these are not "real" rosters of actual players (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)...and the devs do have their favorites to stack each year (*cough...Florida State...cough*)

NCAA needs the rating spread more than Madden does.

Oh so painfully true!!

The difference in ability between a typical Freshman and a 5th year Senior All-American is far greater than almost anything in the NFL (players who can't cut mustard in the NFL don't last very long before being cut...)...

Re: inflated rosters? (little long)

Just because the gators had a ton of college talent doesnt necissarilly mean it will transfer to the pros. Its because of the type of offense they run, look at Pat White from WVU, we can all agree that he was one of the best players in college, but his skill set doesnt transfer well into the pro game. This statement is true for any spread team, Florida included, Harvin this year, Demps and Rainey will all suffer from being labled "system" players. So just because a player has high ratings in colleg doesnt mean theyll be a top nfl pick. Especially when more and more nfl teams draft needs, instead of best available. Look at Reggie Bush, another of the college games greats, but we can all say he has yet to find his niche in the pros, so just because a player is rated high in a college game doesnt mean they should translate to a top ranked nfl prospect.

I agree, because DEPTH is something that is so huge in College football. I think it would make a huge huge difference in the game.
