Re: Slot WR's and TE's Dominate

NCAA 11 did this perfectly. My number ones in this game are shut down because Im afraid to throw to them in fear of a super db reaction. So when I throw, the ball need to travel a short distance to limit the reaction time of the cpu thus slot and TEs get the most looks as they are physically closer to me. You cant throw the ball to your star reciever based on the body position of the CB anymore because of the super shifting so why bother?

If your guy is covered, he wont catch the ball. Your guy is always covered one way or another.

I can get my outside guys the ball on out routes fairly consistently, unless its raining or snowing. If the field is wet, they just fall down and let the db catch it. Otherwise I have to use formation subs to let everyone play slot receiver.

Re: Slot WR's and TE's Dominate

I have this problem as well, despite wanting very much to get my wide guys the ball. As one poster above noted, I think that many of the routes the outside guys run just don't come open in the game for whatever reason, whereas the kinds of routes slot guys run get open a lot more because of their angular nature.

A route that drives me crazy is the post. It's very hard to throw that route to a wide guy in 1-1 coverage and have him get open. There is a break in that route, but for whatever reason the WR doesn't separate at the top of the route, and the body positioning necessary to complete it is never there. There are plenty of other routes that play out like this, but this is just one example.

To get the wide guys their catches you have to do routes with straight 90 degree breaks or stops. Curls work, as do ins and outs. I don't have success with posts or corners, though, or anything where the route break is not 90 or 180 degrees.

I do hope this gets addressed at some point down the line because it forces you to truncate your offensive playbook.

I'm thinking about using a lot of formation subs for receivers that way you could have the wr be were you want them

Idk. I agree it's easier getting it to for the guys on the inside, but I don't have a problem getting it to the outside guys.

How many of you are playing on LCD's? Before I got one, I couldn't see my outside guys, therefore, they never got the ball. I don't have that problem now unless I'm looking to the opposite hash, and you shouldn't really throw to the opposite hash anyway.

IDK about this being 100% accurate. I won the Heisman Trophy with Alshon Jeffrey as my number 1. 78 receptions 1500 yards 23 TD. I did have to work to get him the ball and i also threw to him when he was covered but it can be done.

Are you finding equal success against man and zone when throwing to the outside guys? And are you able to hit routes like the post in man, or the corner in man?

Part of the deal for me may be time in the pocket. Normally the underneath routes by the TE and slot WR just come open quicker and I don't often get the time to throw the deeper routes to the outside.

I am. I'm giving all credit to virtual Alshon Jeffrey a lot of times I would throw it up and let him make a play. If you have a fantastic WR I think you can throw to him at times when he is "Covered" Your analysis of the routes and timing needed is correct though.
