First of all, I don't see a radical difference between the Mich St helmet from 1966 to today.
The current helmet just streamlined the design that already existed.
But I wouldn't put much stock in how the helmet looks and how the team plays.

I do remember MSU was going to "modernize" their logo and the fans all said no and they decided not to
