I agree too, I scale down my offense the first year and unleash it my second year

I like your take on offense. I always go for the pocket passer. I too like the power running game, and I try to get an 8 man front so I can take advantage of the 1-on-1 match ups.
I don't really control anyone on defense and haven't since Tecmo Super Bowl. The controls just are never responsive enough for my liking, and that's been in every game since 90's Madden, and it's sad when my taking the reigns of a player just means that I'm likely to be right there for the tackle and literally let the player go by me untouched. I tried being a pass rusher but felt like I was hurting my high caliber players more than helping, what with many of my attempts ending up with my player on the ground. Occasionally I do an MLB QB spy, but that's only in defenses like the quarter against the spread or on 3rd down.

Agreed, and it makes it that much more satisfying when you can finally unleash your playbook a couple of years down the line!

Re: Playbook Talk

What's funny about adjusting to your players is that in my dynasty, my hope was to have a PB that would be WR and speed HB based, but since my penultimate destination of Penn State had such talented TE's, I had to keep them in a fair number of formations. Not only did my default first and ten pass plays be TE focused plays, my TE's were successful enough that I was able to recruit top notch TE's without even making it a priority to do so. Fast forward 6-7 years from first taking over the program and now I've become a 2 TE offense since my TE's are way more talented than the underclassmen wide receivers I have, so it makes much more sense than going 4 wide.

My roster dictated a different philosophy that I've grown to embrace.

That's awesome man. I likely have the opposite happening to me in my online dynasty. Taken Colorado. I normally run a pistol offense and utilize the TE a decent amount. But I have a deep WR recruiting class coming in and no real good TE prospects. I also don't have a whole lot going for me at RB so I could definitely see myself going more spread and pass heavy in the coming years

offline with my OC at Idaho....I pretty much just have to work with what I got at a 1 star school and self imposed recruiting restrictions haha. I just messed with my PB a bit though to get my back up RB more work in the passing game because he has something like 77 catching

I'm a big football fan and much more an NFL fan than college football, but this is the best sports title EA has to offer for any sport, let alone just football. So much customization, so many possibilities. So many different philosophies to embrace and try out. You just can't get that with an NFL game where all offenses basically work the same

It's usually difficult to keep a good stock of TE's coming in, that's why I tried to stay away from them. If you are a good passing team, awesome receivers will throw themselves at you, so much so that I sometimes ignore 5 star receivers who are a shoe-in, so I wanted an offense dependent on them and the QB.

I'm with you on the different philosophies to try. In my dynasties I go with the style I play best, which is a spread passing attack, but I've played numerous RTG as an option QB or air raid RB. I've also done one-off seasons with flexbone teams and things. I even created my middle division team I played on when I was a kid and ran a custom PB with only plays we ran (almost no passing). I scarcely ever remove NCAA from my 360.

Does anyone know what formation has a curl and go? Meaning fake a curl and then run a fly?

My friends like to try to jump a curl.
