Differnce Between Released and Fired

Looking through the coaching changes on one of my dynasties i saw coaches that had been fired-nothing new
But i saw one that had been released.
So what the difference?

I think released is when the coach leaves on his own.

Maybe released is just not re-signed. Like:
-Being fired is the team saying "get out, I don't care how much longer your contract lasts."
-Quitting is the coach saying "I'm done with this team, even though I have 2 more years"
-Being released would be "The contract is up but let's not sign a new one"

Just a thought...
