Gameplan?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to run your practices and gameplan? .... every week, Adam Shefter gets on there and says how un-prepared my team is for the upcoming week, but I have NO IDEA what I could be doing different ... I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions!

Re: Gameplan?

It really depends on who you're playing and what your strong points are like for example I just got done playing the vikings in my 49rs career and my strong points are my LB and my QB so what I did was for two of my practices I work on my top blitz plays and stop the HB by tackling and the last practice I had I worked with my QB shefter popped up and said I was prepared I won 51-7 so just work on your strong points and use them to gameplan around the other teams strong points if that makes any sense.

Re: Gameplan?

What I do is listen to what Adam Shefter says about the opposing team. What are they working on in practice? I then choose my gameplan based upon theirs. I will give you an example. If they are working to confuse my quarterback with different reads in the secondary, then I'll choose to work with my QB. If that option is not available, then I'll choose to work on my receivers. I simply counter whatever they are doing with the best options available to me. This strategy has never failed me. I would also agree with what the previous poster stated. My defense is built for heavy blitz packages, so I always focus on the blitz in practice. You might also want to take into account the other teams offensive tendencies. Do they run the ball 75% of the time? With that, I would focus on stopping the run.

Re: Gameplan?

Schefter told me I was unprepared to face the Patriots with my Colts team...

I won 38-6

Then he told me I looked extremely prepared to take on the Titans...

I lost 34-28 in overtime...

I don't go by what Schefter says anymore...

Re: Gameplan?

honestly, what he says at the end of the week ONLY has to with how much playbook knowledge your team has compared to the other team.

Re: Gameplan?

I would like to add to the previous statement that I believe what he says refers to how much playbook knowledge your team has gained in that particular week in comparison to your opponent. He likes when you practice multiple plays at once, too. Personally, once my team is pretty much maxed in its favorite plays, I choose individual plays to perfect. And whenever I do that, he predictably slams my practice sessions. But it works for me.

Re: Gameplan?

Posted this in another thread. This and a buck fifty will get you a song on iTunes.

------------------------------------------------

Here's what I do, and I base this on my own trial and error and lots of excellent feedback from these forums.

1. I spend training camp and pre-season gameplans/practices developing individual rookies. I'll spend most of my time on my early picks or on those players who I know have a high potential rating.

2. In order to get my team the learn the plays, during the actual pre-season games I will simply call the plays which my team doesn't know. Pre-season games offer safe learning environments. The outcomes of the games don't really matter. What you're trying to do is to get your team to know the plays as much as possible.

3. My gameplanning in the regular season tends to be assignment specific. I'll look at my opponent's team stats - where do they rank in passing/rushing offense and passing/rushing defense. I'll then tailor my gameplans based on where their strengths are and where mine are. For example, if I notice that they're ranked 3rd in the league in rushing, I'm going to build my gameplan so that the key defensive players responsible for stopping the run get some extra focus. If they're really weak against the pass, I'll spend some time giving my QB, receivers and pass blocking a little bump.

I'll tend to alternate my offensive and defensive gameplans during the week.

4. Regular season, during games I will almost always only call plays that are learned or mastered. Rarely will I call an unlearned play during the regular season, unless I'm in a blowout.

For the record, I tend to just sim the games. Personally I get a lot more out of the GM aspects of the game.

I hope this helps.
