Playing Players Out of Position

Someone mentioned this before, and I just wanted to confirm it.

Is it true that the game will refuse to play a player out of position?

For example, I have a small linebacker that I want to play strong safety. The game won't let me change him to a safety, but I still make him my number one SS on the depth chart. The game will not play him at SS because he is a LB and instead puts in the number two guy on the depth chart.

Is that what happens?

NFL Head Coach 09 will not let you change players from their position in the depth chart screen(of course, there are exceptions), but you can have them play out of position when you select quick sub in-game.

Does that apply to even natural moves, like a CB playing FS, OLB playing MLB, DT playing DE, etc?

You can also turn LBs into DEs are vice versa. But turning a DE into a LB is risky because DE's can't cover at all in this game.

Not sure if you meant this or not, so don't be offended; but just to clarify, I'm only talking about putting CB as FS, etc. in the depth chart, not actually changing the position. I know you can change the position from CB to FS, but can you keep the guy listed as a CB and still play him at FS via the depth chart?

Sounds like the answer is yes. I'm guessing the depth chart probably uses the same rule as the position change. In other words, if a guy can be changed to that position, he can be played at that position. Is that correct?

That has been my experience.

I put Peter Boma (the younger Boma) as my #1 FB. In my system at the time, I had my fullback philosopy set to blocking, and that made RG Boma a wonderful fit. Except, the computer never played him a single down. so sad.
