Returning to HC 06 - some questions

Every few years I go back to the 06 Head Coach game because after you grind through the initial off season it is still one of the best sports strategy games out there. I keep forgetting how things worked so if any of you still play this I have a few queries -

1. How do you run a proper hurry up offense? I can do it in a half assed way by just calling the same play over and over but the AI offenses start lining up about 3 seconds after each play when they run the hurry up which isn't what happens when I am in control! Is there a shortcut key for spiking the ball?

2. Is the Scouting Director of any use whatsoever and is it a problem if you continually keep ignoring his suggestions?

3. Is there any way to get Kickers/Punters OVR anywhere near their max, given that there are no drills for them to take part in?

4. Do the slider options work the same way in 06 as 09? I was going to try some of the settings in the Sliders thread but they are all based on playing 09.

5. In a similar vein, does the wonderful advice that ebongreen laid out for 09 players hold for the 06 version as well?

thanks for any replies

I'll try to answer based on what I remember;

- Not a huge problem to ignore suggestions, just watch approval ratings. Suggestions are usually trash so I constantly ignore.

- Very difficult to improve K/P. I have seen a good, young K/P get the odd increase over time here and there but they will almost never reach their potential. Best to sign/draft the best current K/P and not develop. A very high ST coach doesn't seem to help much either FYI.

- There are some good threads on sliders if you search through the Forums.

- Can't speak to the 06 vs 09 but it sounds like the games are very different though ebongreen's advice is tremendous and some would apply I would think. There are guides for 06 games but the game is so inferior I don't go back and play it at all.

Currently on my second run through all the teams (Panthers are difficult but turning them around slowly!). Would be cool to hear if people still play (I am a pure GM, supersim gamer).

Cheers!

Some of Ebongreen's advice was helpful for 09 but most of it is how game the system or things that, if you figure them out yourself, add to your strategic enjoyment. And some of his advice is just wrong or bad. None of it applies to HC06. HC09 is completely different game.

Re: Returning to HC 06 - some questions

Attached are the zip files for the sliders. The easiest way I found was to simply right click the mfc and msv zip folders one at a time after it downloads, and Extract To Downloads or Documents wherever.

The mfc file or the msv file will show up along with a readme. Dont worry about the read me. Extract the other file, the mrc or msv you havent extracted yet and extract that to the same place.

Copy both the mfc71.dll file, and the MSVCP71.dll, and

go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder and paste.

Go extract your HCSettings folder and click HCSettings, should work like a charm.

Load your save from the "NFL Head Coach" folder usually found in your Documents folder. You must have already started a game already. Go into the folder go into "Saved" and click your save. Wala

--------------------------------------------------

If you are getting the "missing MSVCR71.dll" message here is what you do.
Go to msvcr71.dll C:\Program Files (x86)\EA SPORTS\NFL Head Coach usually

Copy the msvrcr71.dll file from there and paste it into

C:\Windows\SysWOW64

and is that doesn't work copy and paste it into
C:\Windows\System32

Hope this helps! Now I think you would all agree we figure out how to edit these players. Let's get to it!
Attached Files
File Type: zip HCSettings.zip (32.0 KB, 0 views)
File Type: zip msvcp71.zip (128.6 KB, 0 views)
File Type: zip mfc71.zip (502.9 KB, 0 views)
