Its a Rockstar game, I have no reason to think it won't be awesome.

Is this coming out this year?

Max Payne 3 Suffers Another Delay

Quote:
2010 is getting a little crowded for videogame releases.

Take-Two originally stated all four of its biggest 2010 titles, BioShock 2, Mafia II, Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption, would see a release in the first half of 2010.

Now, that doesn't appear to be the case anymore.

In its preliminary fourth quarter results ending October 31, the company stated Max Payne 3 is now slotted for a release during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2010 (August-October).

Looks like Take-Two is setting the title up to be a top holiday release for next year.

Re: Max Payne 3

Well if they're planning on a holiday release, I hope it lives up to the quality of most holiday game releases (examples this year: MW2, ACII, etc.).

Still not a fan of the new look.

Re: Max Payne 3

Looks like Rockstar San Diego isn't the only one with bad management.

GameSpot: Rockstar turmoil afflicting Max Payne 3's August launch?

Quote:
Source: Popular gaming blog Joystiq.

What we heard: It would appear as if Red Dead Redemption isn't the only title creating a strenuous work environment at Rockstar Games. Joystiq reports today that it has received word that a similar situation is unfolding at Max Payne 3 development house Rockstar Vancouver.

"Virtually everything said in the original 'Rockstar wives' letter and by current and former Rockstar San Diego employees in the comments applies to my experience at Rockstar Vancouver," a purported former employee at the studio told Joystiq. The studio is also reportedly in "enforced crunch mode through to the end of the project," necessitating "14 - 16 hour work days, six or seven days a week."

The source also noted that Rockstar is targeting an August 2010 release for Max Payne 3, having delayed the game to late 2010 in December. The game was officially announced in March 2009 after having been first mentioned in March 2004.

"The game's story just went through another total re-write earlier this month (the third that I am aware of in the past two years) and that [means] the team would have to have all of the content done by April or May to make that August release date," he said.

The official story: Rockstar had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

Bogus or not bogus?: Given that the Independent Game Developers Association has offered to mediate in the quality-of-life concerns at Rockstar San Diego, it seems like there is some credence the purported Vancouver employee's claims.

Rockstar Games' delayed Max Payne 3 was curiously absent from publisher Take-Two's 2011-2012 release schedule today, but reps assure Kotaku "We're still working hard on Max, and we'll have more news in the coming months."

Well, I bet that'll be pushed back to 2012.

Re: Max Payne 3

EDGE details
  • McCaffrey is returning, plus he gets to full on act with the other actors, like in Uncharted mocap sessions.
  • Vancouver, London, Toronto, and New England R* studios are all cooperating on this title.
  • Max is working for some guy named Rodrigo Branco in Sao Paulo, and for his two brothers, a politician and a "party-loving dropout".
  • The story will be a bit non-linear, description of Max in Brazil with a full head of hair at a money drop for a kidnapping. Seems the story will go back and forward in time, possibly in New York, his early time in Brazil, and him in the gutter, bald later on.
  • In the stadium/kidnapping mission, Max is partnered with a guy named Passos.
  • The comic style panels return, sorta. Here's how it's described: Now instead of comic book frames, these dramatic plot pointers use the in-game engine and show an animated collage of action footage, similar to 24.
  • Multiple set piece encounters, including a Mona-style sniper rifle escort bit.
  • They did a lot of Mocap for this game. Lots of animations and stuff, apparently looks quite impressive.
  • Uses Euphoria. Very natural animations for Max and his enemies.
  • Bullet time is charged by killing enemies. BT is very detailed.
  • Max can hold three single handed weapons at once and dual wield two different weapons at the same time.
  • Pop out and shoot cover mechanic as well besides BT and Shoot-dodge.
  • Wheel-based weapon selection system.
  • Inner Circle may return - some plot threads from previous games work their way into this sequel. Max has been expelled from NYC.

Re: Max Payne 3

Finally some new info. Thanks Flawless.

Still not a fan of the Brazil thing, but at the same time I'm still looking forward to this.

I'm guessing Holiday 2011 release?
