Cryostasis
This PC game has been out for awhile but I finally picked it up on Steam and I completed it over the weekend and it was a very enjoyable game. It's one of the very few good story FPS games that I've played and it has some unique mechanics that make it stand out.
You are an Artic dog sledder that comes across an old and abandoned Military ocean liner and you must solve the mystery as to how it came to be there and you will interact with the dead crew in some cool ways. I don't want to give too much of the story away but your health meter is controlled by heat, there are different heat sources on the ship that you use to restore your health and they are spaced out enough to add tension to the game but not frustration. The game does a good job of mixing exploration and action, the weapons are old and do take awhile to reload but you don't face many enemies at once and some of the action sequences are thrilling.
The game does take a decent rig to run but the graphics and physics are well done and the sound is pretty ominous as you hear your breathing getting louder as you are exploring colder areas and the enemies do have some sound queues that will make you wary of going around the corner. It reminded me a little of Fear and you will be startled quite a bit as some enemies do pop in from behind you.
It took me about 8 hours to beat and I really enjoyed my time with it.
