Just finished BAS2 and I'm lost. Do you need to have played the first two to understand the ending?

Yeah, I didn't know that coming in, but BAS2 seems to deal with Inifinite and at least the storyline from the first. I don't think the second one is necessary, for I did not play that one but still understood things pretty well.

I only played 10 minutes of the first one, so BI is my only knowledge of the BioShock universe.

I've tried to read some spoilers now that I've finished. I'm probably missing some things, but my understanding:

BiShock Infinite

Spoiler

The variable is the baptism. Booker declines, he stays Booker. He accepts, he's born again as Comstock. Elizabeth and Booker go back to just after the baptism where Elizabeth drowns Comstock, ending the Comstock timeline. I'm still not sure why seven Elizabeth's are in that scene.

Burial at Sea I

Somehow a Comstock survived and escaped to Rature. Elizabeth goes to Rapture to kill the final Comstock. She uses Sally to remind him that he killed a version of Elizabeth. Comstock is then killed by a Big Daddy.

Burial at Sea II

Spoiler

Elizabeth goes back to Rapture to save Sally. She sacrifices herself for Sally and is the reason Jack enters Rapture, kicking off the events of the first BioShock (which I've not played).

Edit: Since PSN has the first BS for $5, I figured I might as well play it now.

What the heck is going on? I played BaS 1 when it came out, and started playing BaS 2 back in March. I got about an hour into it and had to stop playing it up until this week. I really can't remember what it is I am doing outside of trying to save a little sister. I am as far as having gone back to Columbia and getting the hair sample.
