I have rank 4, but would rather save the energies till when i get some new raid primaries once hard mode comes out for Crota

So if you have Crota's end gear and maxed out legendary gear, what's the point of all these ascendant shards, that you can't really use and have no place to trade/exchange them? IDK, maybe I am missing something. I took a prolonged break right before VoG, and came back right before Crota. But I seem to be stockpiling shards I can't use and having to wait until the reset every week to get shards I need. I have 60+ ascendant shards and I have crota and legendary helmet, and crota leg and arm stuff, and a fully upgraded legendary chest piece. So what do I do with these shards?

maybe they'll be used in the House of Wolves DLC? No one really knows because Bungie hasn't said anything.
