Re: No Man's Sky

Well yeah, 6gb is textures and the client, the whole universe is spawned from essentially a random number generator that your client renders.

So does that mean that the save files are going to be enormous?

Re: No Man's Sky

For the record, Shadow Warrior was only 6GB as well compared to other FPS games of equal length that are in the 40GB range.

However, as you said, it is the music, UI, and texture assets. The universe is procedurally generated with said assets. Not like it is using super high resolution and ultra detailed textures. They are more simple, but beautiful with fantastic retro sc-fi art design.

Isn't Minecraft under 50mb vanilla PC (215MB on PS4)? So that should tell you something about, 'size does not equal scope' with this type of game.

Probably not, since the terrain of planets isn't retained (my least favorite bit about this game by far, and most overlooked IMO) your save is probably your location and the thousands (if not tens of thousands) of numerical values representing the planet, biome, etc and n number of surrounding systems (since you can play offline somehow this is probably saved for continuity between save files and in case you're disconnected).

Re: No Man's Sky

6 GB is actually quite large by indie game standards (which is easy to forget sometimes with all the hype this has gotten).

And Minecraft looks like crap. It rivals Atari 2600 graphics. Nobody should ever bring up Minecraft when talking about graphics lol. My kids love it but it's graphics are an embarrassment.

Who is talking about graphics?

We are talking about file size in relation to scope, lol.

Yea I don't think the comparisons had anything to do with graphically speaking.
