I pre-ordered just now to see if I get a code, we shall see. Either way I'll be canceling it soon after I get or don't get the code and will just pick up on release day if I end up liking it.
Any luck? (10 char)

Nah, they said it could take up to 2 business days to get the code.

I just canceled it, the open beta is on the 4th which is one more day so it's really not worth it.

Meh oh well, I wasn't dying to play it so I don't mind. I can understand how it would be important to others though.

Pretty good write-up on each character.

FYI I was wrong what I said in the groupme chat, I misunderstood. You don't get stuck having to pick any class he was just saying people tend to not pick a healer

Re: Overwatch

So I just played for two hours. I joined up with Fearme and he was able to answer some of my noob questions and show me the ropes a little bit.

It is clear to me in each match that there are people who have played the game before and people who haven't. You can definitely tell.

Some initial first impressions:

Game looks really good. Borderline great graphics, definitely good/very good graphics
Game runs great. Smooth as hell, ultra responsive controls, I never noticed frame rate dips at all
Game sounds great, no complaints there

It is very hectic and fast paced for me. It's only 6 on 6 but with the all the powers/abilities going on it was hard for me to keep up, especially in the beginning. It seems to me like getting familiar with all the heroes so you know exactly what your strengths and weaknesses are as well as your teammates, on top of knowing what to expect from each enemy hero you engage with. This is my main struggle at the moment. Reading about your heroes abilities is one thing but actually utilizing them effectively is another.

Teamwork is essential. We played against a couple tight knit group of guys who I assume who were partied up and they just rolled everyone. Our team was mostly being going free for all and it just isn't gonna work. Classes play a big role

The heroes are all unique and very cool. I really enjoyed all the ones I tried and still have many I haven't used yet. There seems to be quite a solid balance as well. I don't think I can say a hero was OP or anything like that, I could just tell that the person on the sticks was skilled

I had a lot of fun. The game is clearly very fun. I am not sure I am ready to pay full price for it though. I am not, as of writing this, convinced this is a game I will play regularly for a long time. Don't get me wrong, my experience so far was very positive, but personally I am not sold on the staying power of it quite yet. The upgrade/loot seems to be all cosmetic/vanity type stuff.

If its a well ballanced game it will be played for a long time. Its a Blizzard game and they want this title to be an E-Sports title, thats why you wont ever see any in game unlockes that effect the ballance.

They want this to be the TF-2 of E-Sports. TF-2 (while great) struggles with that due to the modifiers in it.

Also your impressions make me even madder that my preorder messed up....

Re: Overwatch

Looks fun in streams. Curious to try it out myself. If I end up getting it, it will probably be on PC. It's a Blizzard game. Updates will be faster and the community is guaranteed to be there for the long haul. Shame the $40 version isn't being offered on console too.

And thank goodness. I'm tired of weapon, perks, and other gameplay related unlock nonsense in shooters.
