Re: Sleep

Sleeping has sorta become my hobby over the last few years. I used to get about 6 hours in my 20's. Now in my mid 30's I get 8-9 during the week mostly cause of a busy work schedule. On the weekend I work half days so I get my 8-9 before work come home eat lunch and pass out for another 4 hours...I guess I love sleeping now.

I don't understand how people can get 5 hours of sleep a night. My dad is like that. He'll go to sleep at 9 pm and be up at 2-3 am. Like wtf? I remember back in HS, I'd stay up late on weekends and by the time I go to sleep, he'd already be up. I never understood how he could do that or how anyone can do that. Aren't you guys tired??
I wake up tired, but I'm usually ok after a shower and breakfast. I'd like to get more sleep, but working full time, commuting an hour each day, and spending time with the wife and baby, I need a couple of hours to myself before going to sleep. I'd rather give up an hour or two of sleep than cut anything else out of the day. Besides, I'm used to getting up for work now, so it's not that bad only getting 5-6 hours of sleep.

Re: Sleep

You guys who say you have other things to do that are more important than sleep need to do some research about how cutting out sleep can adversely affect your health and cause you do die much younger. If you really think cutting out sleep in favor of other activities is the answer ask yourself if you're prepared to give up years of your life for whatever it is you're doing instead of sleeping.

Seriously, reading this thread makes it pretty apparent a lot of you have no idea just what not getting enough sleep does to your body..

I have an idea of how unhealthy a lack of sleep is, but it also varies between people. If I want to keep moving up the corporate ladder and living the type of life I want to live and still workout every morning and still spend time with my family and still play a video game or relax now and then and still do the weekly house chores like cutting the grass, washing cars etc....then somethings gotta give. Don't forget that what's good for one person doesn't always work for another mainly due to genes IMO. My father is the same as me and is a very healthy 67 years old. His father is the same and is 91 right now. Heck, my grandmother is 90 and hasn't slept much in many years (ie: she sleeps about 5 hours a night)...yet she's doing very well. Some people just don't need as much sleep as others...although sleeping 3-4 hours a night probably isn't good. I think 6-7 is plenty for some people. It's odd but even if I try to sleep longer on weekends (let's say 10+ hours), I wind up laying in bed staring at the ceiling after 7-8 hours of sleep usually thinking about all the things I want to get done. My body just doesn't function that way anymore...

Hey, we all die someday. I'm just trying to enjoy the time I do have here. Plus, any of us could drop dead tomorrow regardless of the amount of sleep we get. You can sit around and worry about every little thing in life, or spend time enjoying it before it's gone.

Re: Sleep

My sleeping schedule is terrible as I get around 3-5 every night on weekdays because of school, and then from Friday to Saturday I just crash for 12+ hours. Just call me a procrastinator extraordinaire as no matter how tired I am during the week, I still won't go to sleep any earlier than about 2 am.

Someone should have told my dads side of the family, because it certainly hasn't hurt them.
