Bandwagon jumpers/casual fans make up a large percentage of the viewing public. NBA Finals ratings would take a huge hit if Miami lost last night.

True, but like it was said, those aren't the people bitching about parity.

Re: Off Topic 2013

The NBA is the one league where lack of parity doesn't bother me all that much. I'd rather see Heat/Spurs instead of Pacers/Grizzles play in the finals.

Professional basketball needs its biggest stars in the biggest games to really keep me interested. Whereas I can watch a day's worth of MLB, NHL, or NFL playoff games regardless of who's playing.

Re: Off Topic 2013

My biggest hang-up with the NBA is how laser focused they are on promoting a handful of players, but fail to really promote teams as a whole much less project players in markets that would definitely benefit from the exposure.

I would have loved to see the Spurs/Grizzlies play against the Pacers because Stern wouldn't know how to market the series since it wouldn't include Kevin Durant or LeBron James. And while Duncan is a GOAT type of player he's not that big of a celebrity.

Never going to get new stars if you have the same rehash year after year. You know how many different NBA teams have won a championship since 1984? We're talking 30 years of championships here, including this year since Miami and San Antonio are another rehash of the last decade or so. 8.

EIGHT!

Boston, LA, Detroit, Chicago, Houston, San Antonio, Miami, Dallas.

In that same 30 year span, MLB has managed 19 different World Series champions, the NHL has managed 14 different Stanley Cup champions, and the NFL has had 15 different Super Bowl champions.

So you can watch the other leagues no problem, despite a revolving door of contenders, but you can only watch the NBA as long as the same set of teams are winning? Hey, maybe you'd find out Marc Gasol and Roy Hibbert are stars if they actually got there instead of seeing Duncan, James, Wade, Durant, etc... shoved down our throats.

Yes, because the postseason product is better in the other 3 professional leagues. There's not much else there to pull me into watching NBA playoff games without the top stars.

I'm checking out if my Celtics aren't playing or the biggest stars in the league aren't involved. Not saying I won't tune in for the 4th quarter but won't be investing an entire 3 hours of my night to watch a whole game.

Oh, and I know who Marc Gasol and Roy Hibbert are. Just don't need to see them matched up against in other in the NBA Finals. Not my idea of must see TV. I simply don't care for the NBA enough.

The only thing I can think of is Price is Right, but then, what else do you really need?
