A question for the California residents...

Question guys:

Have you guys seen your electricity rates increase over the past 3 to 6 months? I ask because I work for a large retail chain and the California stores are currently running $143k over budget just 5 months into the year. Are you guys seeing an increase on your bills?

Thanks for the feedback!

Yep. Some of it is thanks to the administration's hike in living green taxes, supposedly. In Alabama, they've caught the power company padding bills. There's a class action suit kicking off right now, and I've already noticed my bill going down this month... in the middle of the summer. Something certainly smells fishy.

Also, San Diego Gas & Electric was going to increase rates to compensate the loss they incurred during the wild fires several years ago. I think this affects southern California residents only. There were class action lawsuits about this proposal but somehow utility company was able increase the rates regardless.

I'll ask my Dad when I get home. No surprise that California is way over budget.

You ever find the reason?

From what I've been able to gather, the California Public Utilities Commission allowed utility companies (sdg&e, so cal edison, etc.) to raise the utility rates on households $5.3 Billion over the next three years.

It's supposed to go towards smart energy systems, renewable energy as well as safety and reliability.

Re: A question for the California residents...

For the company that we use for Natural Gas the average price from Jan-July for 2012 versus 2013 is up from $2.477 to $3.713.

I'm just looking at one of our California companies for reference and in Jan-July 2012 our average price per mmbtu was .35 compared to .46 this year. That's a pretty big difference.

I also read that the increase was due to inflation to pay for Enhanced Safety, Reliability and Clean-Energy Programs. I guess that's the price you pay for living/doing business in California.
