CFL brings in a 3.8 mil cap

http://tsn.ca/cfl/news_story.asp?id=151301

I found this interesting "The CFL will also offer financial rewards to players who successfully inform the league about teams having not disclosed any salaries or side deals."

The CFL already had a cap last year but it was a huge joke. I know David Braley isn't a fan of a salary cap since it takes away a financial advantage the Lions have.

But without a hard cap being enforced, it would be hard for community owned teams like the Bombers and Riders to compete on a yearly basis.

Who's the higest paid CFL player right now? Really don't know much about the league, but its interesting to see how low the salary cap is.

Don't know about the highest but I know Montreal's qb Calvillo tried to get 400K last year and was shut down. I don't like him but he's pretty good. Some are better though. My best guess would be half a million is the highest paid guy with most players in the 75K to 100K range. A lot of these guys have day jobs too. I know one of our running backs Eric Lapointe works as a financial analyst here in Montreal.

I've always been a supporter of the league but 3.8 Mil is far too little to be considered a "major league".

Oh well if the play on the field doesn't suffer I'll still watch.

Officially, I think it's either Ricky Ray or Dave Dickenson at around 400,000. But there are rumors of people like John Avery getting nearly a million dollars a year under the table.

The highest paid player is Ricky Ray. He probably made around $500,000 last season not including bonuses.

I think the cap is a fair number. The average league attendance is probably around 29,000-33,000. I do know corporate sponsorship is at an all-time high. But the CFL should be careful. Out of control salaries almost killed the league a decade ago.
