That was sort of the case at my HS, the other problem was finding a competent long snapper. The latter may be the biggest problems HS's that don't kick FG's or PAT's face.

At my school we had a guy who could actually kick 50 yard field goals and make them, it was crazy. He would get kickoffs out of the end zone too.

We had a couple of soccer players. The first quit our senior year to focus on basketball (good decision, he was First Team All State) and the second we tried as a punter. Whereas he was one of the best soccer goalies in the state and went on to play pro baseball, he couldn't catch a football to save his life and was worthless. He also couldn't get the hang of kicking a football for some reason.
