What: Lehigh Valley Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament (Nintendo)
Where: Bethlehem, Pennsylvania @ Big Woody's - 2625 Easton Avenue, Bethlehem, PA 18017 (We prefer that people from the Lehigh Valley enter, whether they currently reside or are formerly from. We want to start the inaugural tourney on a local level. We can't have guys like Mort coming into town and destroying everybody the first time.)
When: Sunday, Jan 27th, 2013 - Noon. Games will probably start about 12:30.
How much does it cost? - $10 cash. Pay at the event.
Tournament Limit? - No limit. Walk-ins are welcome, but we prefer you give us a heads up on facebook (Lehigh Valley Tecmo) or email
[email protected]. Invite your fellow friends from the Lehigh Valley.
What are the prizes? - A trophy for 1st place. Gift cards (from Big Woody's or Gamestop) will be for the top 3 finishers based on the number of people that show up at the event. 100% will be paid out. We aren't keeping anything for ourselves.
What is the atmosphere? - Big Woody's is a local chain with 5 locations in the area. The Bethlehem location just opened in the past year and is wall to wall with TVs to the ceiling and at every booth. They have great food and drinks.
How long will this take? The goal is to be done by no later than 7.
Should I bring anything? If you have a Nintendo and/or copy of TSB, please let us know. We have enough, but we would still encourage you to bring it as a backup.
Feel free to contact us with any questions.
Format
4 person groups will play world cup style (aka pool/group play) to determine seeding into a single elimination tournament.
Rules
The rules are modified from the "Madison Rules" for time and efficiency.
1. Team Selection & Coin Toss: A manual coin-flip will precede each game. The coin-flip winner has the option to a) choose the matchup (i.e. the two teams) or choose the team, which allows the loser of the coin toss to choose the matchup. The coin toss winner then chooses between player 1 and 2.
2. "One Matchup Once" Rule: A person can only select a particular matchup once throughout the entire tournament. For instance, if Timmy wins the toss and selects Packers-Browns, Timmy cannot call that matchup for the rest of the tournament. Bobby, however, is free to select that matchup later in the tournament.
3. ++++++++EDIT: Playbook changes are now permitted. Before each game, there is a 1-minute time limit for each person to make their playbook change. Substitutions are still banned. This is due to time efficiency.
4. Ties: Although ties are permitted in the tournament's "round-robin/pool play” portion, such are not permitted in the single-elimination portion of the tournament. If a game ends in a tie after overtime, a new game will begin, and the first player to score in the new game is the winner.
5. No pressing buttons during coin toss.
6. Lurching: Lurching is prohibited. If you want to rush with a DL, you must either go outside the offensive tackle, or "popcorn" someone on the offensive line. You cannot simply go around your blocker and dive. This includes extra points.
7. Nintendo Malfunctions: If there is an equipment failure in the first half, games will be replayed from the start. If equipment malfunctions in the 2nd half, only the second half is replayed. In that event, the scores from each half are added together to obtain a final score. If the game was uncompetitive or the equipment malfunctioned due to human error, the tourney organizers reserve the right to declare a winner without replaying any portion of the game.
8. Turbo Controllers are not permitted.
9. No written scouting is permitted, though coaching is allowed.
Anything not described in the above rules may lead to settled disputes by the overseeing committee. Disciplinary action may lead to points awarded or forfeit.
