The way HHG presented the question, he asked in a "what-if" hypothetical manner. Rex's answer didn't seem serious, but rather playing off of HHGs personality. This interview doesn't hold much weight at all.

The reason I have 2K in my username is because I was a huge 2K Football fan. It is what it is. E3 is winding down and no word from 2K or the NFL, just a bunch of statements from unverifiable 'inside sources'

Kinda funny you mention WWE because it reminds me of the Monday Night Wars from the 90's. Obviously no way Ted Turner was going to sell WCW to Vince even if he tried to buy it in the middle of the wars out of spite of how good the NWO storyline was and getting rid of it to ensure all the ratings went to Raw. What EA did by buying the exclusive license was what has happened to WWE today with no competition, there is no effort to try.

With WCW and the NWO storyline, 84 weeks in a row they beat WWE in the ratings. Vince could have took the easy way out, offered Ted Turner a bunch of money and bought WCW to avoid making his show better. NO! Instead of folding, Vince knew he had to make his product better, thus the Attitude Era and the rest as they say is history.

EA saw what 2K was doing, got scared and eliminated the competition. Instead of trying to improve their game, and probably avoided Madden becoming what NBA Live is today, they went out and made sure to be the only game in town. If you don't like watching WWE, there is no alternative.

Well, I think it's logical to assume that the license isn't exclusive, but it probably costs a grip to get "in" and have the license to make an NFL game.

So maybe it's entirely possible 2K (or Take Two or whoever) is working out a deal to acquire the license, but you won't see a game for another year.

And if that's the case, I don't think you hear anything this year. But I get the sense that maybe EA wasn't 100% sure where 2K stood when it came to football (assuming the license isn't exclusive) and kind of held things back a little this year as it pertain to promotion/marketing.

But in the end, if 2K isn't coming back, then heck, the dream was fun while it lasted.
