Three Depart OM

As Olympique de Marseille continues to refine their squad under a new regime, three young players were moved out on sales and loan over the past week.

Aaron Kamardin, a 20-year-old center back, has joined St. Gallen in the Swiss Super League on a €300,000 transfer. Likewise, 21-year-old midfielder Nassim Ahmed has departed to AaB in the Danish Superliga on a €350,000 move.

Returning to his home country, 18-year-old Swiss winger Esey Gebreyesus will be joining Lugano on a one-year loan with an option to buy.

Now eyes will be focused on what potential moves OM make in the summer transfer window as this makes seven players being sold or sent out on loan since the arrival of new management, with the most notable being Dimitri Payet's €9 million sale to AC Milan.

Marseille Make 3 Signings

After seeing seven players depart since July either on loan or from sales, Olympique de Marseille have added three new signings before the closing of the summer transfer window in an effort to add more depth and youth to the squad.

Rubén Sánchez has joined from La Liga side Espanyol for a fee of €3 million. The 21-year-old Spaniard is primarily a right midfielder with great pace and stamina, but Sánchez was also attractive to Marseille because of his versatility to be employed at right back if needed.

OM then signed midfielder Pedro Brazão on a €2.85 million transfer from Famalicão in Portugal. The Portuguese 19-year-old already has experience in France from his time in Nice's system from 2018 to 2021. Marseille will be looking for Brazão to add depth in the central attacking midfielder position where a spot was created following the departure of Dimitri Payet.

The final addition is 19-year-old Frenchman Samuel Yepié Yepié from fellow Ligue 1 side Nantes. OM activated the €1.45 million release clause in the left midfielder's contract. Yepié Yepié is not expected to be a major factor in the current squad but could see limited action as he continues to develop.

Guendouzi and Clauss Out vs. Sporting

September 11, 2022

Olympique de Marseille will open their UEFA Champions League campaign without midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi and right back Jonathan Clauss after both picked up minor injuries during OM's 0-0 draw with Nice.

Guendouzi and Clauss each suffered a bruised shoulder in the contest, and while the injuries should only keep each player out for about 5 days, that is enough to prevent both from playing in Lisbon against Sporting CP in Marseille's first Champions League match on September 13.

Group D is expected to be one of the more tightly contested Champions League draws as in addition to Marseille and Sporting, it features Tottenham Hotspur and reigning Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt.
