Also, there will be a triple threat match to determine the #1 Contender for the RAW Women’s Championship between Asuka, Rhea Ripley, and Bayley. He then welcomes everyone to Monday Night Raw and exits the ring.
Segment Two: Austin Theory Begins Theory Invitational
After commercial break, Austin Theory stands in the middle of the ring with a microphone. He states that you are looking at the future of WWE. This United States Championship is just the stepping stone to bigger and better things. He knows he is the greatest, but to cement his legacy he is going to introduce the Theory Invitational. He states that he has every WWE Superstars name in his cellphone randomizer app from Akira Tozawa to Brock Lesnar. He pushes a button on his cellphone, and states that R-Truth’s name has been selected. He states that it is R-Truth’s unlucky day, and if he has the guts to come down to the ring and face him, he might walk out United States Champion tonight. R-Truth’s music plays andhe makes his way down to the ring and we have the opening match to RAW.
Match #1: Austin Theory vs. R-Truth (United States Championship)
(R-Truth took a lot of punishment this match, as he was clearly outskilled by Theory in the ring. After kicking out of a TKO and an ATL, R-Truth made a comeback but was clearly gassed from taking so much punishment. Theory capitalized with a kick to the face, followed up by another ATL for the win.)
Winner via Pinfall and Still United States Champion: Austin Theory
Segment Three: MVP Shows off Omos and his Destruction
We come back after commercial, and Omos makes his way down to the ring for his match with Cedrick Alexander, who is already in the ring.
Match #2: Cedrick Alexander vs. Omos w/ MVP
(Complete domination by Omos. Cedrick was able to catch Omos for a few seconds in a knee bar, but that only made the Nigerian Giant mad. Omos hit Alexander with a huge chokeslam to finish him off for the three count.)
Winner via Pinfall: Omos
Segment Four: The #1 Contender for the RAW Women’s Championship is Crowned
Backstage, Cathy Kelly is with Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair, asking Belair is there a superstar between Ripley, Bayley, and Asuka that she’d rather face. Belair states that they will all be tough challengers, but at the end of the day nobody is taking the RAW Women’s Championship from around her waist. We then cut back out to the ring, where Ripley, Asuka and Bayley make their entrances for the triple threat match.
Match #3: Bayley vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Asuka (#1 Contender’s Match for the RAW Women’s Championship)
(The three women gave it all they had. At one point, a kendo stick and a chair were introduced to the match. The women traded finishers on each other, but they were always broken up in time by the third competitor. In the end, with Asuka out of the ring on the floor, Ripley went for the Riptide but it was blocked by Bayley. Bayley then lifted Rhea up by the waist from behind, and slammed her face down on a steel chair for the victory.)
Winner via Pinfall and #1 Contender for the RAW Women’s Championship: Bayley
After the match, with Bayley celebrating in the ring, Bianca Belair came out and went face to face with Bayley in the center of the ring, raising her RAW Women’s Championship in the process. After the commercial, we are ready for our next match.
Segment 4: Boogs and Corbin have a Match
Match #4: Happy Corbin vs. Rick Boogs
(Both men traded power moves on each other. After kicking out of two End of Days, Boogs got the upperhand, hitting Corbin with a military press drop. After Corbin kicked out, Boogs went for the Boogs Cruise but Corbin reversed it. Corbin then went for the End of Days, but Boogs reversed that. Boogs then surprised Corbin, hitting him with the Boogs Cruise for the win.)
Winner via Pinfall: Rick Boogs
Segment 5: Seth Rollins and Candice LeRae are Interviewed
Cathy Kelly finds Seth Rollins backstage getting ready for the Iron Survivor Challenge tonight. She asks Seth Rollins about his chances against the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns if he is to win the main event tonight. Seth Rollins states that everyone knows Roman Reigns and his history going back to The Shield. But Rollins states that since The Shield broke up, Rollins has always had Roman’s number. And after he wins the main event tonight, you can guarantee that he will be WWE Universal Champion by the time Backlash is over.
We then cut to Corey Graves backstage with Candice LeRae. Graves asks LeRae now that she has been called up from NXT to RAW, what her goals are. LeRae starts to talk but Alexa Bliss interrupts the interview, stating that she is surprised that nobody’s are getting interviews these days. She states that she is a former Women’s Champion and just seems to be forgotten about. LeRae states that maybe that is because she hasn’t done anything worth mentioning in a long time. Alexa smirks and then forearms LeRae in the face, LeRae goes for Bliss but Adam Pearce and security break it up. He states that if they want to fight each other, do it in the ring. LeRae states that that is a good idea. We go to a commercial break.
We come back, and Candice LeRae and Alexa Bliss make their way to the ring for our next match.
Match #5: Candice LeRae vs. Alexa Bliss
(Alexa Bliss and Candice LeRae pulled out all the stops in their match. LeRae showed that she belonged on the main roster, as Bliss hit multiple DDT’s on her for two counts and took all that Bliss threw at her. Unfortunately for LeRae, Bliss countered her and connected with the insult to injury. She then went up top and hit Twisted Bliss for the win.)
Winner via Pinfall: Alexa Bliss
Segment #6: #1 Contenders are Decided for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships
We then cut back to Adam Pearce at his desk in his office. He also states that after talking to multiple women tag teams and factoring in recent history, he has named Io Sky and Dakota Kai from Damage Ctrl has the number one contenders. He states that we will get a preview of that match next as Io Sky will go one on one with Becky Lynch. When we come back from commercial, both women make their way to the ring for their singles match.
Match #6: Io Sky w/ Dakota Kai vs. Becky Lynch w/ Lita
(Despite the distractions from Dakota Kai, Lynch was able to overcome Sky’s aerial offense. After hitting Sky with a Manhandle Slam, Lynch got the three count and the win. Lynch and Lita’s confidence heading into Backlash must be at an all-time high.)
Winner via Pinfall: Becky Lynch
Segment #7: The Miz is Interviewed about the Main Event
We come back from break, and Cathy Kelly is with The Miz. Kelly asks Miz about the main event tonight. The Miz states that its about time the A-Lister was back on top as World Champion. He states that Backlash needs a superstar like The Miz to headline the event, and after he wins the four way tonight, the Marquee on Sunday will read “New WWE Champion, The Miz!”
We cut back to the ring, and Alpha Academy and RK-Bro make their way to the ring for their tag team match.
Match #7: Alpha Academy vs. RK-Bro
(Surprisingly, Alpha Academy put up more of a fight than RK-Bro were anticipating. It even got to the point where Otis hit the Middle Rope Splash for a close two count where it seemed that Alpha Academy may pull the upset. With Gable on the apron, distracted by Randy Orton on the outside, Riddle was able to grab Gable and pull him inside the ring, hitting a DDT on him. He then locked in the BroMission on Otis for the submission win.)
Winners via Submission: RK-Bro
Segment 8: Ciampa goes back to Basics
Mustafa Ali goes out to the ring for the next match on the card, as Cathy Kelly finds Tommaso Ciampa getting ready for the next match. Cathy Kelly asks Tommaso what his plan is, since he has been treading water since being called up to the main roster. Tommaso says that it is time to get back to what he was when he was headlining NXT. He is done with the stupid costumes and being The Miz’s lackey. It’s time to get back to what he does best, and that’s hurting people. And that starts with victim #1, Mustafa Ali. He then makes his entrance to the ring
Match 8: Mustafa Ali vs. Tommaso Ciampa
(Mustafa Ali almost ruined Ciampa’s back to basics approach in their match. Ali kicked out of a Fairy Tale Ending and turned the tables on Ciampa. After hitting a slingshot X-Factor, Ali hit the 054 splash for a close two count. Ali then went back up top and went for another 054 splash but Ciampa moved out of the way. Ciampa hit a few strikes and then through Ali onto the apron. Ciampa DDT’d Ali through the ropes for a close two count. Ciampa then hit Ali with a knee to the face, followed by a Fairy Tale Ending for the 3 count.)
Winner via Pinfall: Tommaso Ciampa
Segment #9: Interviews with Finn Balor and Cody Rhodes and the Main Event
We then cut to Cathy Kelly with Finn Balor, Damian Priest, and Dominick Mysterio. Cathy Kelly asks Finn Balor his thoughts on tonight’s Main Event. Finn Balor states that he was the first WWE Universal Champion, and ever since he had to forfeit the title due to injury, he has not been given many chances in the WWE. But now that he has the Judgment Day by his side, he will reclaim his spot at the top of the company. Once he wins tonight’s Iron Survivor Challenge, he will go on to face Reigns at Backlash. And if the Bloodline want to get involved in the title match, Balor says the Judgment Day will make them regret it.
After commercial, Seth Rollins, The Miz, and Finn Balor make their way to the ring for the Iron Survivor Challenge. Cody Rhodes is making his way to Gorilla Position when Cathy Kelly stops him to get his thoughts on the main event. Cody Rhodes states that ever since he came back to the WWE, his only focus has been on winning something his father never did, the WWE Universal Championship. And it doesn’t matter who he needs to go through, whether it be Balor, Rollins, Miz, Reigns. The American Nightmare isn’t afraid of anyone.
Main Event: Rollins vs. Miz vs. Balor vs. Rhodes – 15 min. Iron Survivor Challenge
(All four competitors put move after move on each other, but the first fall didn’t come until 4:08 was left on the clock, when Miz pinned Rhodes after a dropkick to the knees. And fortunately for Miz, that was the only fall of the match as the other competitors couldn't score a pinfall or submission before their opponents broke it up. The Miz has won a title opportunity at Backlash. As RAW goes off the air, The Miz is celebrating in the ring at his upset.)
Winner 1-0-0-0 and #1 Contender for the WWE Universal Championship: The Miz
