RIJKAARD AT THE ANFIELD HELM

Rijkaard is new Liverpool boss, Sammy Lee carries on as Assistant Manager/Reserve Manager
Frank Rijkaard has been announced as Rafael Benitez's successor as Liverpool's new manager.

2009/10 season was promised to be huge for Liverpool, and it has certainly started with a bang.

With Benitez's sacking for 'unknown reasons', co-chairmen Tom Hicks and George Gilett were on the search for a new manager.

And they opted for ex-Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard. The Dutch manager had the chance to join either Galatasary and Liverpool, and the latter were the obvious choice.

Rijkaard went on to say 'Liverpool are a huge club. I've been at arguably the best team in Spain, Barcelona, and i've been out of management for a year now, it was a great place to get back in it. I'm hoping to achieve great things with Liverpool."

His first action has been to split the team into two. A reserve squad of 18 players has been set up for the reserve league, all young players, and then their is the first-team. The worrying thing about that is their is only two strikers in the first team so Rijkaard's first piece of transfer business could be to buy THREE strikers.

All the coaching staff stay at Anfield though, and Sammy Lee takes on the joint role of Assistant Manager/Reserve Team Manager.

LIVERPOOL SUMMER SIGNINGS

Andoni IRAOLA - Athletic Blibao - £5,000,000
Aged 26.
He is a right-back, brought in as cover for Glen Johnson.
Made 4 appearanes for Spain.

Ryan SHAWCROSS - Stoke City - £9,000,000
Highly rated centre-back good in the air and is a born leader, despite being 21.
Brought up at Man Utd so nobody saw a move to Liverpool coming.
Not played for England first team yet but is being touted by Fabio Capello.

Jermaine JENAS - Tottenham Hotspur - £7,500,000
Having being somewhat of a bit-part player for Spurs last season, he joins The Reds with a point to prove.
Came through the excellent Nottingham Forest academy.
Played at 3 levels on the International stage, including 21 appearances for the first-team.

Abdul Kader KEITA - Lyon - £6,500,000
Keita was about to join Turkish club Galatasary, but like manager Frank Rijkaard, he opted for Liverpool at the last minute.
His brother, Fadel, is a former Ivory Coast international.
He's an out-an-out winger, he cuts in from either side.

Iker MUNIAIN - Athletic Bilbao - £5,000,000
Muniain is the second player to join Liverpool from the Basque region of Spain, as the 17 year old striker follows Iraola, Bilbao and The Reds agreed a £5 Million compensation package.
He chose Liverpool ahead of Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan.

GERVINHO - Le Mans - £8,000,000
The Ivory Coast striker nearly moved to Spurs in January but Harry Redknapp and Le Mans couldn't agree a fee.
After a move to Lillie broke down last week, Rijkaard spoke of his interest in Gervinho which has led to this deal.
At 22 years of age, the dreadlocked striker can be an excellent impact sub with his electric pace.

John CAREW - Aston Villa - £4,600,000
The big Norweigan striker turns 30 next month, but Rijkaard saw him as the ideal experienced partner for Fernando Torres.
He was a hit with the fans at Villa, scoring 31 goals in 89 appearances.
He has played at 6 different levels for the Norweigan national team, but scored his last goal in March 2008 against Montenegro.

Actually ive played two games so far, and Jenas is pretty good.

But i've got the PS3 hardware failure that everyone with a 'fat' PS3 has. So I don't know if I can continue this. Only time will tell.
