LIVE from Houston, TX
UFC Fight Night on FOX just ended! We had a very exciting night featuring many knockouts! Some big surprise performances and a debut from a boxing legend. The results are in and posted above, let's head inside for the post fight press conferences!
To kick off the press conference, a few fighters sit down to discuss the event and their matchups. The camera quickly cuts over to Rory McDonald while the crowd rushes in. McDonald will now get a chance at Condit for the #1 contender spot to face off later this year for the Welterweight championship!
"This question is for Erik Perez, Erik, going into round 3, this was a fight that the judges could have ruled either way, what were you thinking as time was ticking down when you had the submission all but locked in?" asked a reporter. "Well, Eddie had landed some solid shots on me all night long and I knew it could not go to the scorecards because crazy things happen when they do. I saw an opportunity with (Edddie's) arm out of place and was able to secure the armbar with a few seconds remaining in the fight, not much to think about when focusing on ending the fight," said Perez.
"Cat, your fight earned Fight of the Night, do you think the judges scored this one right on such a close bout?", Cat responded saying "No, this was not scored correctly. It was a close fight, but I dominated the ground a majority of the fight and even landed more accurate strikes. The judges did not score it right and it was hard to hear when the winner was announced." A shocked look appears on the face of Bethe Corriera. The tension is growing between these two.
Another question comes in, "Mike, after stepping away from Boxing, MMA has a lot more techniques needed to be successful, how did you win in such dominating fashion tonight?", Mike responds "I did what I do. I knock you out cold, no one can handle the shots and (Roy) wanted to keep the fight standing up and that is where I have and will continue to shine."
As the press conference draws near an end, the focus shifts heavily toward Rory McDonald and his first round knockout of Nick Diaz. Questions fly in, most jumbled in the noise, but McDoanld answers a couple. "Rory, you came into this fight knowing the winner gets the #1 contender fight at UFC 4, did this motivate you?"... "You know, I try not to look ahead and worry more about what is right in front of me, Nick is a tremendous fighter and focusing on anything other than what was in front on me would have me on the other end of this fight," said McDoanld. Another reporter quickly asks, "Now that you know Condit is coming up, how do you see that fight going?"... "I will train as hard as I always have, have a great camp, the best camp, and come out ready to fight, the title shot has been long overdue, I am still overcoming hurdles and fixing to get what is mine."
Fight Night on FOX press conference draws to an end and what an exciting event it became. With UFC 1 right around the corner, the full card should be announced in the coming days. Rumor has it that this card features some very anticipated rematches. Stay tuned in for more exciting UFC action and the release of the UFC 1 fight card!
