Saugus Speedway
Race 3 of 20

START: 23rd | FINISH: 27th

Instead of coming home from Tucson the team and I spent the week out west and visited The Grand Canyon, the 'UFO Town' of Roswell, New Mexico and 'Sin City' Las Vegas, NV. It was very cool but by Friday we were itching to get back to the race track, especially following the DNQ in Tucson.

We were going to need a good qualifying effort again this week as we were at a very small track again only starting 28 trucks. We were sitting in 30th in the points but if we want to stay there we have to keep getting points. No points for DNQ's so we had to get the bad taste of last week out of our mouths and focus on the task at hand here at Saugus.

Well, practice didn't go well as we were last place but not too far off but would need to dig just a little deeper in qualifying to get in. We didn't pick up in qualifying but a few guys fell off from practice and we were able to qualify and would roll off 23rd. No real goal for the race except keep all the fenders clean and finish the race.

We would start off good and get up into 17th before the tires started to fall off but were holding around 20th position when we got lapped. We would lose another lap and finish next to last as John Nemechek would fall out with mechanical problems. Definitely not a good day but getting points and racing sure beats loading up and heading down the highway. Next up is Mesa Marin over in Bakersfield so the team and I will look for a hotel between here and there after we find a late night stop for some grub. Catch you next week!

NEXT RACE: Mesa Marin Raceway | Bakersfield, CA

Really wish the truck series would head back to all these short tracks.

I agree, Busch(or whatever it's called now) Series as well. So many of the great old tracks are sitting vacant or being demolished or are gone completely. I do enjoy being able to re-live those tracks virtually.

Mesa Marin Raceway
Round 4 of 20

START: 27th | FINISH: 24th

The team was still on the west coast in California at the Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, CA. Only 35 trucks would start the race this weekend so we would need to qualify our way into the show. We have already had a DNQ at Tucson so we need to get in this show to maintain our spot in the top-30 in points. This would help us out after race 5 when the top-30 gets locked in to each race.

In practice we weren't very fast but we weren't that slow either, we had a decent truck but we weren't going to be a top-10 threat but we may could sneak into the top-20. Although our main goal is to just be in the race and not tear up the truck a good run would be nice also.

We would slow down in qualifying but it was still good enough to be in the show comfortably in 27th spot. We would run in the mid-20's most of the race without much excitement. We lost 2 laps but stayed out of the leaders way and didn't tear anything up so the weekend was a success.

Next week we are off but will be heading to Portland, Oregon in 2 weeks for our next truck series race. We may do a little short track racing back in North Carolina next week but I haven't decided for sure yet so stay tuned to find out.

NEXT RACE: Portland Speedway | Portland, OR
