2016-2017 MLB Hot Stove Thread

For everyone except Cubs and Indians fans, the offseason is underway.

What moves do you want to see your team make? Where do you think the big name FAs will land?

I'll start off for the Jays. Bautista should be gone, they should re-sign Encarnacion(or trade for Votto), re-sign Saunders, re-sign Benoit, pick up option on Grilli.

I'd want Neil Walker or Justin Turner for 2B(and then trade Travis), and Fowler, Reddick or Trumbo for OF. Morales or Alvarez at DH. RP wise, sign one of Hunter,Romo,Smith,Torres for RHP and at least 1 of Blevins,Dunn,Howell,Wood for their much needed left handed reliever.

You want Justin Turner for 2B? He hasn't played 2B since he has been with LA. Anyways, I don't see Turner leaving the Dodgers unless they acquire someone like Evan Longoria. Turner is a local kid who is beloved there. He may get overpaid a little, but better than the other options there.

Re: 2016-2017 MLB Hot Stove Thread

Red Sox offseason that I'd like.

So right now with the team it is looking like;

C: Battle among Vazquez, Swihart, Leon. I am completely okay with these three getting the starting/backup spots next season with hopes of Swihart taking that starting spot.

1B: Hanley was amazing with the transition.

2B: Pedroia has this on lock down for the next few seasons.

3B: This is where it gets tricky...Pablo or Shaw or a different option? Personally, I am okay having these two battle it out in spring. We need that left handed/switch hitting bat in the lineup.

SS: The X-Man will have this position as long as he is in Boston.

LF: Benintendi looked amazing, completely good with him getting the nod.

CF: The Golden Glove JBJR.

RF: The Mookie

Lineup wise we are looking good again. Now we just need that DH problem filled because the GOAT decided to retire.

Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Bautista, Joey Votto (pipe dream), or Jay Bruce (don't think he has an option). I would personally want Votto, but am good with Edwin or Jose.

Pitching even I am good with for the most part.

Price
Porcello
Pomeranz
Wright
Rodriguez

Kelly
Barnes
Hembree
Smith
Ross
Chapman
Kimbrel

Yep. Chapman. I would love to splurge and have Chapman and Kimbrel in this bullpen.

So all in all, Chapman and a DH (Edwin, Jose, or full NTC Votto).

Re: 2016-2017 MLB Hot Stove Thread

All I ask for is Edwin to come back. I'd try to resign Benoit and pick up the option on Grilli. Bautista is as good as gone unless he takes up the qualifying offer. I'd like to see some more LH bats in the lineup but not necessarily power bats. The Jays need to become more balanced, younger and hit to contact a little more.

There's even been some crazy speculation of trading Donaldson to get some pieces. I don't see that happening (well actually you never know with this front office but they'd be burned at the stake for that) unless something amazing is offered up to them.

Cardinals
-----------
1. Go get a CF. Most likely by trade. Perhaps a deal with the White Sox for Eaton (and maybe Quintana for another pitcher). Cards will have to give up a couple top level prospects (Sierra, Flaherty, Bader, Sosa) in the deal but a defensive CF (and also bonafide leadoff guy) as well as a tough lefty pitcher would be nice.

2. Closer. I like Oh but in my opinion, I think he fits better as an 8th inning guy. I think Cards will at least kick the tires on the big 3 (Chapman, Jansen, Melencon) but won't go overboard.

3. I would also look at maybe trying to trade Peralta.

Unless they're getting a Trout or Harper in return for Donaldson, I won't do it. If Jays deal him, even if for top (aka unproven at big league level) prospects, management would be run out of city, or at very least, attendance numbers from years back with all of 20,000 people at games.

I don't see Benoit not signing unless Jays don't want him back. Doubt his demands are high. Having the core of Osuna,Grilli,Biagini,Benoit back means they just need to add 2 lefties and 1 righty to the pen. Cecil COULD be 1/2 lefties, only if they get another as well.

But I agree, they need non power hitters. We know they can hit home runs, but the past 2 ALCS, their problem has been producing runs in another way. Guys need to get on,steal bases, bunt and so on as well.

I agree with this. I really want us to go out and find a leadoff hitter, preferably one that can play center.

And while I'm not sure what trade value he would garner, I would make Perralta available this winter.

I expect the Red Sox to revisit trade talks with Chicago for Chris Sale. Whether a deal is made or not is anyone's guess.
